Q: Did the Surgeon Make a Mistake during Hip Surgery?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 30th, 2006
I HAD MY LEFT HIP REPLACED A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS AGO. I PAIN NEVER WENT AWAY. IN THE THREE YEARS I WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT LEAST 30 TIMES. THEY WOULD GIVE ME A SHOT OF DEMERAL AND SEND ME HOME NO EXRAYS. FOUR WEEKS AGO I HAD TO HAVE THE SAME HIP REPLACED AGAIN. THE NEW DOCTOR SAID THAT IT DID NOT LOOK LIKE THE FIRST ONE WAS PUT IN RIGHT. SO I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND GOT THE OPERATING REPORT IT STATES THAT THE DOCTOR THAT PUT THE HIP IN THE FIRST TIME WAS 4MM SHORT OF GETTING THE STEM TO GO ALL THE WAY IN AS HE POUNDED HE GOT TIRED SO HE SAID THAT IT LOOKED OK SO HE CLOSED ME UP. MY QUESTION IS IF THE STEM WAS NOT WEDGED ALL THE WAY IN HOW COULD IT HAVE BEEN TIGHT SO THE BONE COULD GROW IN IT I WAS WALKING ON IT THAT DAY AND EVERY DAY SINCE. WITH THIS NEW SURDERY AND NEW DOCTOR I HAVE TO STAY IN BED FOR SIX WEEKS ONLY TOE TOUCH. DOES IT SOUND LIKE THE FIRST SURGERY WAS DONE RIGHT . THANK YOU

Orthopedics, Hip, Knee Replacements Answer A976
You might consider to focus yourself on the rehabilitation program that follows this second hip-replacement. Even if you succeed in bringing both orthopedists to the same place at the some time, I don’t think that you will get the real answer for your question. I cannot tell you whether this first surgery was facilitated correctly, or not.
