I feel so stupid!

I just purchased a avent isis off ebay (i was not thinking) and then after I agreed to purchase the item I see the ebay selling articles.

but then when I went to another website it says that as long as a used pump is sterilized thoroughly it should be fine and that there are no reports of mother or baby acquiring any dieseases from a used pump.

Another website said that if you sterlize all the pieces and replace any that could potentially harbor bacteria or infection or all pieces that came in contact with milk than the pump should be fine

and yet another website claims that the "dangers" listed in the first above mentioned article is nothing but a conspiracy to get all of us to buy new pumps, bottles, etc. All so that these companies can make more money and have less liability.

Does anyone know which of these is true? I am so confused. I certainly will not put myself or children in danger to save a few bucks! Please help!

Well alot of times you can rent breast pumps at hospitals and they are used so I am sure that if it was that dangerous than hospitals would not rent them. All they tell you is to sterilize all the parts just like that one article.

avent isis
I liked the double pumping action. I could pump both sides at once and be done in fifteen minutes. When I used my Avent Isis pumping took more than twice that time and seemed as if I was spending almost every waking moment pumping milk. Also, with the Pump In Style I was able to fit the horns in my bra and would not have to hold them leaving my hands free for reading, typing or other activities.

I loved my Avent pump. You can't beat it for mobility and how well it works for a manual pump.

I'm sure if you boil it, it should be fine. If you are still uncomfortable, you might be able to take it in to a hospital or your doctor and ask them to sterilize it for you with their special equipment...just fishing for answers here.
