How do you handle it?

I have to drive for an hour and with this new diet I am kinda scared.

Whats the longest you have drove and what do you eat along the way?

Four hours. I brought all my meals with me made for the entire day just in case I got stuck in traffic or something. I stopped when I had to, right when it was time to eat or if I felt like I had to take a little rest. Don't be worried, relax and just make sure you have your food with you.

Did you ever drove when you had the 30min -1 hour ups and downs before you went on the diet?

Yeah, it was pretty bad. I made it but i'd often worry I was going to kill someone with my car. Eventually it got better. Just take your time if you can, if you can't do your best, I know we can't avoid certain things.

How bout going to events the whole day?

I planned to go a local themepark with friends before I got diagnosed, now I am not sure if I could go or how to handle it.

Ever been in a situation like that?

Hmmm, yes, but I was on antidepressants at the time so I wouldn't have noticed. Ummm, it could still be possible. If the parking lot isn't too far away, bring a cooler with your meals and perhaps carry around a few with you in a bookbag, eating when you have to.

Before I realised I had hypo every time I went on long drives I would start to get very light headed and had to pull over and stop and I bought some soda and then I was fine again. I didnt even realise what was going on with me then. But now if I travel for more then 2 hrs I usually take just some plain rice crackers and an apple and im fine

Okay, just stick with it. Be careful because the body may eventually start to crash, almost in defiance of the diet you're eating. Then, it will take some time until it evens out again. I say be careful because many hypoglycemics then assume they need to eat more, but couldn't be further from the truth.

Hi,

yes, you're so right, i've assumed lately that I need to eat more to control my blood sugar and i've been gaining weight! I've found out that I don't need a lot but just a small amount to keep my blood sugar level and it's working fine. It's like i've been eating extra meals between my regular meals in hopes of feeling better. Now I just eat a small amount and give it a little time and soon I do feel better.
