This isnt really pregnancy related but I think its the best place to ask this and get the quickest answer...

I just had my baby and we had decided on using parents choice formula (wal-mart brand) we compared all the ingredients and nutitional info to nestle good start, enfamil etc all the brand name stuff and found they were almost identical..Except parents choice was cheaper.. And we have heard from many ppl we know there children were fine with it.. So we bought it. At the hospital they had him on enfamil a and when we got home he started parents choice with no problems...Only problem is, my bfs step mom shows up today with 5 huge cans of nestle goodstart and told us to use that instead cuz she had problems with parents choice and she'd feel better if we used goodstart. Now were not sure what to do.. We compared the ingredients again and the only difference seems to be nestle goodstart is 'easier to digest' and more exspensive lol... Im concerned about switching him to a diff formula as it would be the 3rd time... Any opinions??? Were debating which one we should use cuz we could always exchange them...Does the easier to digest make a big difference?

Sorry its so long, any input would be appreciated.. Hes almost 3 days old and I just dont wanna do anything wrong! I have no experience with any of this!

There is actually a difference between parents choice and nestle I made that mistake nestle is actually easier to digest and parent choice can cause alot of gas(even when it has dha and rha) honeslt I know nestle is more expensive but with cameron and elisa it worker wonders especiall the one with dha and rha. Every baby is different so try yours on the parents choice first but if you notice a pattern you may want to switch just a piece of advice when you change formulas (it may upset their system for about a day) so you may be up overnight!

Hmm.. What are signs that the parents choice isnt good for him???
I think I am going to ask the health nurse what she thinks I should do, cuz ive never done this b4 but he seems fine with it and I dont wanna go switching him for a 3rd time so soon...And then if he didnt adjust to the nestle it would be 4...My mom says if hes fine with what he has then stick with it.. Im so confused lol

Neeko, your mom is right. If it works for him, use it. If it doesn't, then worry about it. You'll know if he doesn't like it by the way he acts. Parents choice is fine. I suspect it is made by a pricier brand and sold under the walmart name for less (though I could be wrong about that).

Same goes for diapers. My daughter couldn't wear certain brands because she'd get a rash. But with my son, I could use the cheapest ones and he was just fine. All children are different, and if cheaper works, go for it! ;)

good luck.

Im going to ask the health nurse...
I think hes fine with it, he switched from the hospital enfamil to parents choice with no problems at all... He spits up...But dont all babys a lil? And his poop seems fine to me...
Were young and dont have alot of money so if we can save by using parents choice, I think why not? I think it was a lil pushy for his step mom to just show up outta nowhere with all this formula and basicly try to force us to switch cuz it would make them feel better...Just cuz she had problems wit it, but everyone else says it worked great for them.. I dunno.. Ill see what the health nurse says and see wat my bf says.. If he wants to spend the extra money on goodstart its up to him cuz hes the one that pays for it all lol

Not sure what one is better to use with my first baby I brestfeed for only 2 weeks since I was young and had to be cut open since he was bottom first..
I used enfamil with him but he was always getting sick from it so I had to use a soy like kind..Then with my daughter I breastfeed for 4 months then went to enfamil witch worked good for her they did not have the other kind you are talking abought when I had her..And with my 3rd child I breastfeed for 3 years so with baby #4 im going to breastfeed again...My sister did use goodstart with her last baby 4 years ago and she liked that brand better she said her baby really never spit it up.. Good luck and hope all works out..

Goodstart
The reason that goodstart is easier to digest is that the proteins in the formula are already broken down for the baby, whereas the proteins are large in other kinds of formula. Larger proteins are harder for babies to break down, which makes them harder to digest resulting in gas, spitting up, etc.

The health nurse said the formulas are so similar ingredient wise that we could finish the parents choice and switch to nestle if we wanted to...But she also said if were not having a problem with the stuff we already have then its absoloutley fine.. Dunno what were gonna decide

My mom started using goodstart with my little sister, however she would spit it up everytime she used it. It didnt' settle well with her, so my mom switched to semilac (sp) and that gave her a lot of gas. So they switched to enfamile (sp) low iron. She did really well with this and so they gave her iron supplements.
