My son recently was taken to the hospital because of some strange actions he was spitting all over the place saying he tasted and smelled something foul. He stays in his room for hours at a time and has for 3 or 4 yrs he is 19 now I thought he was depressed tried to get him to talk to someone he would not and then he started at christmas time doing alot of talking at night in his room I thought he was talking in his sleep but I soon found out he was not. He spent 4 wks in the hospital the dr says he thinks he is schizophrenia but I am so confused josh says nothing is wrong with him he just can't stand me. When he is on the meds he seems fine he still stays in his room but he doesn't spit and call me names but when he is off the meds he can't sleep he curses spits and hates me. He had an outburst last week he swears he was taken the meds but I don't know what to believe. I know something is wrong but do you think he is schizo. When he is acting strange he is in his room saying get away form me don't touch me then he comes out and tells me I am sick and hollers at me he also laughs to himself alot pls someone tell me what to think of all this.

Many people with schiz don't think anything is wrong with them. It is very common. If the Dr. Told you he has it then he probably does. Either way if his meds work then the diagnosis really doesn't matter.

The only advice I can give is to support him as much as you can. If he says he hates you it's the illness talking, show him you love him anyway. Do anything you can to keep him on his meds.

Good luck
