I was recently diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, and as a result, have lost 2 babies, and 1 miscarriage very early on. I am seeing my doctor on friday for a check up, but am anxious to know now....What exactly does bed rest entail? Surely you can't stay in bed for 9 months!!!??? I want to try to get pregnant again, but am told next time I become pregnant, I will need a stitch at 14 weeks. I have also heard this probably means bed rest. Has anyone had the stitch? What did you have to do? Did it work? Thanks!

I personally didn't have the stitch, but I know someone who did. It was relatively painless. You just wouldn't be advised to go on mall trips and other such adventures.

Good luck

Um... Although I am not a medical professional and you should discuss it in more detail with your doctor, I would presume that regular house work would be ok but if you have a job that you'd be standing on your feet a lot, it would not be beneficial for this situation. Like I said, you should ask your doctor a lot more questions... They're definately more informed. I hope that helps.

I went to the doctor today, and while he still recommends waiting a few more months to let my body regain nutrients, he says physically, I seem to be just fine! He also said that a cerclage does not necessarily mean bedrest, just lighter activites. I plan to try again in a month or so (i am anxious)...Wish me luck all!!!!!!!!!!!

weak cervix
Hi, I too was diagnosed with cervical incompetence. I had one stillbirth when I was not aware of my situation. I however got pregnant 3 months later and had the stitch put in, I also got the steriod injection for the fast development of the babies lungs just incase he came early again. Unfortunate he still came at 7 months and died seven weeks later from NEC, which basically is a gut infection which develops with insufficient oxygen in the system at birth when babies are born premature. Our medical system in Trinidad is not too advance though, so they were not able to save him. During pregnancy I was able to walk around and do minor stuff, but my doctor adviced me that the next time I get pregnant I will have to go on total bed rest. So my advice to you would be, don't do anything...Just relax, it will be hard but the sacrifice will be worth it when you have your baby in your arms.
