Q: Beware of Docs Who Say Hrt Without Testing!

I am warning everyone I know about this. I had a hysterectomy at 29 and had to fight to keep my ovaries. A year later, I had to have one overy removed. Afterwards, I began having trouble with that ovary and started having symptoms of menopause. The doctor tried to get me on hrt, but I refused. (my grandmother had a mammogram and an x-ray prior to hrt. She developed breast cancer within months of taking it and died 6 months later.)

one year later when I went in for a pap, he was still trying to get me on hrt, without even doing bloodwork to see if I needed it. He was upset over my refusal and told me I would pay the consequences when I develop heart disease etc... I only ovulate about two to three times a year now, so you would think I need some sort of estrogen replacement right? My hair was falling out, I was gainning weight, I was moody, biting everyone's head off, had night sweats, and a large list of other "hormone-related" problems.

A few months ago I joined a study on bioidentical hormones at the univ. Of texas at tyler. It was the first time I had my estrogen/ progesterone checked. Pre-menopausal estrogen should be between 1.0 and 5.0, with 1.5-3 being optimal. Mine was 7.0! Progesterone should be between 100-600. Mine was <15. I am estrogen dominant and that ob/gyn was trying to get me on estrogen replacement! The progesterone has helped my hair stop falling out, i've lost weight, i'm happy, I have energy and my family is ready to keep me now lol!

On another note, some of the women i've met in the study are post-menopausal and some have had complete hysterectomies. Some of those women are also estrogen dominant, still! Others aren't and require estrogen replacement, but it's the ones who are estrogen dominant that are angry at their doctors for trying to get them on estrogen! There are estrogens in our bottled water, in our foods, etc... Just because you've had a hysterectomy does not mean you are not getting enough estrogen.

Progesterone deficiency can cause the same symptoms as estrogen deficiency. Believe me, you don't want estrogen if you're estrogen dominant! All it takes is a simple test. The bioidentical hormones are working great for most of the women. This is the second study. The first one had great success! This one will be over in two years. I wouldn't use anything over the counter though because you don't know what you're getting. A compounding pharmacist is best. You also need to be under the care of a doctor prescribing them so they can monitor your hormone levels. You don't want to mess with your hormones on your own.

My advice...Get your levels checked first! And be careful of the pregnant horse urine. it's dangerous!
