Q: Lower Back Pain While Sitting.....
asked by: aniokly on April 23rd, 2006

I have 2 herniated discs at l5-s1 and l4/l5. I had surgery in 2000 on l5-s1. Recently I am having excruciating pain in my lower back and left hip whenever I sit for 5 minutes or more. My doctor seems to think that I just pulled something, but it has been 3 weeks since it has started and it is not getting any better. I was on bedrest for 3 days while I took cyclobenzaprine and hydrocodone, and it did not alleviate the pain. It is most intense when I go to get up after sitting, but seems to go away (not totally) when I walk around or lay flat. I have numbness in my left calf and on the left side of my foot from prior epidural steroid injections. I am so frustrated at this point, I do not know what to do....Please help....

What doctor told you that you probably pulled something? You need to get back to the surgeon who did your first surgery and pronto, unless he is the one who said you pulled something, then find another doc.

I can tell the rest of your story since I have the exact same issue. I had a prodisk inserted in the l4/5 disk 3 years ago and have never been the same. My pain is on the right though. It only happens when I sit and when I sleep on a soft bed. I am in the process of getting a ridiculously hard mattress and we will see if the bed helps me sleep any better. I too seem to be fine when walking as long as it doesn’t go all day. If I am at the fair or something just as silly and walk around for miles on end then I do have problems, but for the most part just ordinary walking is fine. Sitting on the other hand is where I have all my issues. Since I practically live on the computer, you can see how miserable I am most of the day.

I have had all sorts of procedures, injections galore and nothing works, but the hydro and a lidocaine patch. I haven’t tried anything else so I don’t know if another combo of meds would work any better.

My doc must think I am a compulsive liar since I walk into the office like nobody’s business, when everyone else crawls in on their death bed. I was like that once, but I can manage to walk much better now. I tell him I can walk just fine and lie down about 60 percent ok. The sitting is a hands down beast to deal with. How do you get your doc to believe you though when your problem is only manifest when no one is looking?

coastie gave the best advice! You need to get some x-rays done to see if the space above l5/s1 is degenerating, alot of your pain is going to be generated by l4/l5 and the surgeon that you used before will most likly tell you that you are edging in on the next level. Alot of times they will leave the decision to you as to when you have the surgery based on your ability to deal with the pain and the medicines ability to control the pain.

Like coastie said, if the surgeon put you on b/r and pain killers and muscle relaxers and said, "you pulled something", that would be a sign from the gods saying, find a new doc! At the bare minimum, you need to have an x-ray done and possibly a myleogram to seee the extent of damage.

Good luck and let us know how you make out,
brian

not enough "details in your site to start.

I am sorry to say this will be a waste of ones money. If people have money to throw away then I say go for it! Can we say placebo? If this was that great and can "cure pain" wouldn't everyone be using this? How long has this product been on the market? If you really think that putting this on the skin will get deep into the body you are totally mistaken! Sorry but something put on the skin can only go so deep. As the saying "only skin deep" haha it might work for a rash. Hehehe I also wonder how this would "cure" all the things listed on the foment bag site???????? You have got to be kidding??????

"foment bag effects a radical cure from the simplest issues to very serious conditions." this is riduclous!!!!!!

Sorry to say but all people have to start with is these things you mentioned so why do they need foment bag? "slouching in chairs, driving in hunched positions, standing badly, lifting incorrectly, sleeping on sagging mattresses, being unfit can cause stress and strain on the spine. The cause may build up gradually over many years. Practicing good posture. Exercise regularly."

sorry to say people but this is a money making scam for this person!!!!! Don't be fooled!!!!!!

This is at the top ofthe most riduclous treatments I have read about!!!!

If someone has tried it please share the results? I would love to see what is in this forment bag, studies done on this product, fda approval and more back ground to back this product up. What a joke the forment post is. You might as well move on to another board to sell your product. Sorry but try a totally lost my mind and I have money to throw away board.

Thank you shirl,

i hate being the sole debunker around here but man, to say that "foment" is good for anything but a wallet thinner, which in turn will ease bacck pain because our wallets are thinner is a big stretch.

Good luck with your latest ponzi corperation and maybe you can start selling magnets too. You know they have to work because lots of people sell them.

(dont think about all the mri technology that is not used as a treatment, just think the magnets must work and they will, maybe the medical community will start treating with pain with those all powerful magnets too)

Fomentbag ~

do you honestly think this would do a thing for a person like me who has already had 7 spine surgery's. I had 3 cervical fusions, anterior and posterior with plate, rods, and screws and I am now fused from c3-7 and still have issues with c1-3 and c7-t1. I have also had 4 lumbar surgery's, anterior and posterior and I am fused from l3-s1 with bak cages, rods and screws and still have issues with t12-l3. I have no idea what the rest of my spine is like. I also have knee issues which will need replacement in the future.

I really don't think your product will work for me!

Oh, by the way why does the board where you placed your add have to be mentioned? Can I ask where else you posted this (which other boards besides ehealth)? Last but not least who are you to this company? Show me proof that I asked for in my other post. Please!

Sorry you have not sold me and #2 I will not give you my home address. I am not that crazy. When I see this product advertised in a health magazine or in my surgeon/doctors office I may think about trying it but until then no thanks!

China?!!!!! Oh yeah I forgot they are on the cutting edge of technology. They can barely get a rocket of the launch pad, maybe once every ten tries, but they can reconnect your spine!!!  I can hardly believe that these people can sell their snake oil. I know chronic pain, and i've been to the end of my rope more than once, but know for a fact that there are no egg plasters, or foment, or herbs, calcium supplements, or anything that will heal your condition. Sorry to be such a realist, but there it is.

you must be one heck of a doctor!!!!! You know nothing about me and it will stay that way! How can you even say anything you did about my care as you know nothing about any of it and you don"t know my surgeon. You should just move on.

You sure need to back up everything you just posted in the last few posts! I don't have that kind of money to spend! I don't know anyone who does, do you? Like I said if you have money to throw away go for it!

I would love to see proof on each and everything you have posted.
