that swooshing in my ear
I lay down tonight and all of a sudden I heard this sound and thought Crap a bug is in my ear. I actually jumped in the pool and held my ear underwater because I had not been in or near water for over 24 hours. I knew the sound in my ear could not be water it HAD to be a bug but then I research and find this site and think, no make that pray it is not a bug and maybe something worse.... Okay I really hate bugs. So from what I am gathering if this is like what most have posted then I had better get used to this feeling and sound...... I am glad to know I am not alone but can I just say GREAAAAAAAAAAAAT

Swooshing Sound In My Ear
I visited the ENT the other day about a different matter and mentioned the ocean sound in my ear and he told me what it's called. I honestly can't remember. He advised me to go see my chiropractor because my aligment was off. Sure enough this worked sound is gone.

I have that swooshing in my head now...however, my doctor prescribed EstroGel (it's a gel that you just put on your skin to be absorbed into your system) and it seems to be working. RUN, don't walk, to your nearest doc for this prescription! It's all natural, but as with most things, you shouldn't use if PG or could become PG.

Whooshing in right ear
I have had the same whooshing sound in my ear for about 2 years or so. I agree that it sounds like holding a shell to your ear or the sound an ultrasound makes. No diagnosis here either from my PCP or my ENT. My right ear feels full, no pain and the annoying sound especially at night watching TV. If I tip my head down towards my right shoulder, it will stop for a brief period of time. I wish I could find what is causing this !

Whooshing Sounds
What a relief! I thought I was insane! This whooshing sound started in April and I went to the Dr thinking it was fluid. She prescribed me antibitics and said if it didn't work to go to an ear dr. Well I did and she gave me a stronger antibiotic. That didn't work so I went to ANOTHER ent and he said that what I'm hearing is the blood being pumped through my artery in my head and there's nothing they can do for it. Which doesn't make sense to me because why after 24yrs would I just all of sudden hear this. I'm going insane!!!!!! It makes me dizzy and sick to my stomach and I feel deaf all the time. It feels like my head is under water and people are trying to talk to me. Please someone find answers before I take a power drill to my ears!

I was feeling all alone today until I found all of you. I have had this noise for 8-10 years. It started when I became severely anemic, I saw a hematologist, he did no test when I told him about the (sound in my ear)but laughingly said oh it could be a blood clot that is stuck and if it hasn't killed you yet it probably won't. I sorta went crazy with doctors after that and no one could find nothing and so I live with it, and some times it is so loud it drives me crazy. Like many of you I can put pressure on my neck and it will go away and if I turn my head just right it will go away. I do find myself laughing at myself some times when I look only to the left and hold my hand on my neck what a site it must be.

I am in the same basket,I did almost every test to rectify the issue in my left year. Met ENT, Neuroscientist to see all sort of cases and no results. I think I have to live with this, the sound some time goes up and some time down. Some time feeling drowsy and less focus. Terribly impacted on my academic life...ENT told me that it Menier's syndrome http://www.earsurgery.org/site/pages/condi tions/menieres-syndrome.php ..

Swooshing Sound in My Right Ear
Hi everyone. I, too, have this swooshing sound in my right ear. I can hear my pulse with every swoosh and it does sound a little like listening to the ocean in a sea shell. Mine started about six months ago and I believe it was a direct result of some type of complication I had after a minor surgical procedure.

While I was in the recovery room after surgery just waking up, I remember feeling very cold and suddenly I got a huge headache -- like my head was going to explode. I remember looking at the blood pressure monitor and seeing that my blood pressure was half of what it should have been 60 over 40. The nurses came rushing in & gave me something in my IV and within a min or so, my headache subsided and my blood pressure returned to normal. I left the hospital and exactly one week later, I was lying in my bed trying to sleep and started hearing my pulse in my right ear.

It comes and goes and like others whenever I'm in a roomful of people or somewhere where it's loud, the external noise drowns out the swooshing sound. I hear it mostly in the morning whenever I get out of bed. Sometimes it lasts all day long and it's driving me crazy. I also hear it more clearly whenever I'm lying in bed at night trying to sleep.

I don't have allergies, TMJ, water in my ear, blood pressure problems. In fact I have low blood pressure all of my life -- usually 90/60.

I have an appt with an ear specialist in a few days and I will let you know what I find out.

I can't live with this forever. It is soo annoying!! I can relate to all of you and I hope we can find something that works to get rid of this sound!!!

If mine is a direct result of post-surgery going wrong, I will be seeking an attorney!

I will keep you all posted! Hang in there.

I also have low bp...since you have low bp and encountered this problem post op, I would ask to be checked for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome or Orthostatic Intolerance.

Omg. I can relate. I guess I first realized the swooshing sound 2 years ago. It has recently gotten more frequent within the past few months. It would usually start after I got in from work and got ready to get in bed. Now it's off and on all the time. The sound reminds me of a doppler of an artery or like the ultrasound of a babysat heartbeat. I'm going to schedule an appt and hope they can find the cause. I do think the sound is that of an artery because if I slow my breathing and calm down the rate of the swooshing slows down. Thanks for reading Please post any updates. MJ

whooshing in right ear
I have been reading all the posts and have lots of the same symptoms - pulsating whooshing in right ear when I bend over, feeling of fullness and pulling rather than pain in the ear - but also have something really weird that I find almost impossible to explain... I get the whooshing mainly when I hear a noise, the louder the noise, the more intense the whoosh. When I shout at my kids, my own voice causes a whoosh too. If i rub my ear, I get a whoosh. I've had it for about 6 months and it's slowly getting worse though I am better at coping with it now than when it first started. Def worse when I'm tired or ill. Been to docs few months ago and was supposed to go back but everyone thinks it's stress. I think there is something physiologically wrong though so I will go back.
Any ideas very welcome. mumof6

A Chiropractor visit worked for me.

I had this wooshing sound (like holding a shell up to your ear) for weeks. One day I went to Chiropractor for back problems. During the visit he adjusted my back and my neck. Afterwards, I notice the sound went away. I asked him about it and the Chiropractor mentioned that sometimes adjusting the atlas of the neck can relieve pressure which in turn can let fluid drain or release nerve pressure. My Chiropractor did mention this was something doctors have really figured out so it could just be coincidence.

So, a Chiropractor visit (for a neck adjustment) might help--it definitely worked for me.

i feel your pain
i have had this annoying problem with my ears(yes, both of them) for a good year and a half now. i've tried a lot of things, and the doctor is definately no help at all. i've been to the doctors over 5 times for this, and he just keeps giving me anti biotics. i cant aford to keep going back. i seem to find out more information about what it could be online, than going to my own doctor! how messed up is that?
if anyone knows how to really get rid of this, i'd love to know! its been driving me insane and sometimes i just want to cry. i can't seem to get through 1 day without some annoying noise in my ears, which also includes getting light headed, and almost a drunk feeling for a couple seconds, and a lot of pressure in my head. its not a headache, just a lot of pressure.
help me! i'd like to be sane again!

Hi I had a whossing sound in my right ear especially when I was lying down, it sounded like the sea. When I turned to sleep on my left side it would speed up then slow down, I thought it was co ordinating with the blood going through my veins.. But from what I am reading it sounds like it is to do with tinnitus, I was starting to get real concerned that it would be something major. Thankfully mine has stopped for now.
