Total Abdominal Colectomy With Approx. 2" Large Colon I
Posted: 04-22-06 15:52pm

I just had a third colon surgery. This initial for a sub-total-colectomy approx. 3 years ago. Two more last year due to partial obstuctions and lastly the fourth, last week, to remove all of my remaining large colon except approximately 2". I am now having over 30 bowel movements per day. Is this normal? Will I always live like this? Is there anyone with any information. Your help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

What did your dr tell you about this? If I were you, I would talk to him or the dr on call. Do you have a colostomy bag?
The very best to you!
Maybe someone else can help you out a little more.

sub total colectomy

I had a sub total colectomy almost two years ago and had the same problem at first. I learned to eat smaller amounts and avoid all fatty foods as they pass through much quicker. Now I go from 10 to 15 times a day and am learning to live with it. I take Lomotil and Imodium and that sometimes helps or Wellchol as prescribed by my doctor helps to firm up stools. Hope things get better for you soon.
