Drinking And Epilepsy
Posted: 04-20-06 14:03pm

I have had epilepsy since I was 6 months old and I have been off medication for 7 years now. I have started drinking after a 5 year break. This last saturday I went to a bar with friends and got drunk. I did not wake up with a hangover but for about 3 days I was feeling a little dazed and confused.

What is this? I am assuming it has something to do with epilepsy.

Thanks,
katy

It could be part of your epilepsy, but it might also be your medication. Some seizure meds specify that it is not good to mix them with alcohol.

You can check with your pharmacist or look up your meds to see if this is the case for you.

Sorry you have had a few rough days....Be careful with drinking since it can lower the threshold and allow seizures.

You can always have what is known as a virgin drink, that is a drink without the alchohol, such as a margarita with no alchohol or a virgin margarita, I have gone in and drank coke's with a spash of lime, that way you do not haave to feel like crud the next day too and you can still stay on your meds. Bars can get spooky as it does not take much to slip something into someone's drink.
Good luck!
