My daughter has cp and it is not genetic. Certain conditions that cause cp can be genetic but not cp itself. Cp is a terminology for the effects of brain damage on the body. My daughter has spastic diplegia which effects her lower extremeties. I asked her doctor once about her children (someday) and she was very clear that cp itself does not pass on. That said if your boyfriend had a genetic condition that caused his cp then I would worry. Most likely your pregnancy will be as fine as any other. There is always the chance with any pregnancy that something can go wrong, and when it does a lot of times (as with my daughter) they never know the cause. Take care of yourself and your baby and you and your baby should be fine.

Congrats and best wishes kat

Cerebral Palsy
I had a son with cerebral palsy in 2002. In 2006 we lost him. He got sick really quickly and passed away 20 days later. My question is what are my chances of having a healthy baby next time around? I took really good care of myself the first time and my son was still born with problems. Now I'm trying to get pregnant again, having a little trouble but if it does happen I'd like to know my chances of having a healthy baby this time.

Hi Alice
Sorry to hear about the son you lost. I myself have cerebral palsy however i have 3 sisters , two older one younger who are all healthy. I guess the answer to your question depends on what cause of your sons cerebral palsy was, cerebral palsy however is not genetic and therefore you shouldnt have an increased chance at all that cp will affect any other children you have.
I'm not medically trained however.
Wish you the best of luck in the future

Thank You for your opinion. My son had severe CP. But it's nice to know that there are families that have had more than one child and that there healthy. Thank You your input makes me feel a little better. Smile

Hi. My grandma had CP, and she was able to raise (by herself) two healthy daughters. She lived to be 91 years old, and she had a quick wit and scathing sarcasm. She was one of the first children mainstreamed into the Iowa public school system. She used to write fantastic articles and editorials to the newspaper. She was my greatest role model. best of luck to you-I am certain all will be well.

I just came across a site with some very good info about CP. I learned quite a few things myself. Happy reading!
