Anyone Tried This Before? Posted: 04-19-06 13:05pm
Has anyone here tried to "set a quit
date"? If so, how did it work or not work
for you? I'm currently trying to psych
myself up to quit by a certain date, but I
don't know if i'm just making excuses,
stalling, and/or just setting myself up
for failure.....
Thoughts?

Lucky number days, holidays, birthdays
etc, etc. Prob for me when I do that, I
get all tensed up when this magical date
gets closer and closer. And I start to
"stock up".....You know,
over-smoke.....Like I have to get the
nicotine levels way up to survive this new
assault on my body.
But everybody's different, and it's quite
possible this'll be the thing that'll work
for you. :)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I've tried
this method before. Lots of times my
reasons for starting back is that I just
wasn't ready or that I didn't enjoy my
last one enough. Lame, but i've thought
that so much, it isn't even close to
funny.
I haven't had a cigarette since I woke up.
I am tweaking out. I don't know if I can
make it.

Soooo.....How'd it go?Are you still
smoke-free?
I'll join you when the carton runs
out(maybe?).....I can't see myself
throwing out my smokes......And then
digging through the garbage 2 in the
morning cause I started to flip.
For me the hardest smoke to give up is
also the first....You know the one with
the morning coffee. :)
Ugh...Didn't make it. I don't think I
lasted 6 hours. *sigh*
the hardest one for me to give up is my
smoke after a meal.
My hubby was soooo disappointed in me
yesterday. It made me feel very crappy
about myself. I wish he could understand
how so very hard this is to give up.

Yeah, they think by "ragging" on us that
this helps??
Almost six hours is great....Try to make
it to 12 next time....I think the trick is
to not expect to much out of
yourself...It's a heavy duty addiction and
we've tricked our bodies into thinking we
need it, so now we have to untrick it. I
found one of the things that helped with
my other "quits" was to change my habits.
Perhaps if you change the hour that you
eat or what you eat and also have
carrot/celery sticks on hand for those
oral cravings.
Make a list of things that'll help
distract you when the cravings start to
hit, instead of waiting for it to happen.
Keep a daily diary(even here, if you
like), and for goodness sake don't beat
yourself up!
Today, i'm buying a huge supply of gum. I
have one cigarette left, and then that's
it. I hope.
Thanks for your encouragement, spirit. I
know if I can just make it through the
cravings, i'll be okay.
I'll keep you updated!

Is the jaw sore yet? I did the nicotine
gum(tres expensive!) and that stuff's like
cement......Lost a few fillings.....Mind
you they were the mercury ones and was
planning to take them out
anyway......Thank goodness I have dental
coverage cause after all that I think I
have the equivalent of a brand new car in
my mouth, lol.
Yeah I chew the regular gum too, just make
sure you brush and gargle more than usual,
ie. Cavities.
Hope ya didn't buy another pack?! 2 packs
to go over here.....Starting to get into
panic mode....Not exactly the greatest
time to quit,stress-wise.....But when is??

Birthdays And Lucky Nubers Etc... Posted: 05-17-06 01:56am
For me it doesn't help. After that I feel
rather lamentable... Birthday of son, new
year and so on - nothing helps... But I
believe everybody has its own way and I
hope to find it soon... (at least until I
die from lung cancer) :?

I am still trying too... You know it's
quite ridiculous habit but I keep trying
quit with help of "lucky" nubers, hours,
days etc. Once i've said to myself I will
quit when I resist to 2 cigarettes left in
my pocket... I've tried many times but
never have resisted yet... :( I believe
when I resist the presence of cigarette in
this way I will resist it wherever.
