Cramps
Posted: 04-19-06 11:46am

Just a quick question.... I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have been having some lower back pain. It almost feels like cramps but not really. It's like a pulling sensation. Almost like someone took their hands and is pulling out on my hips from either side. I'm not quite sure what it is. It is very sporadic and it is very mild. I am not having any blood. But I heard that cramps are a cause for concern in pregnancy. Does that go for back pains as well?

All of your ligaments and tendons soften while pregnant--so it can allow for the spreading of the hips for delivery. It sounds to me like your having the spreading feelings already. Usually later in pregnancy women experience these, but since the softening begins as soon as hormones change I guess it is also common to feel this at any time. I began to experience this around 26 weeks and it continued everyday for 2 months.
But I felt it right over the hip bones. Not exactly in my back--nor in my stomach, but on my sides. But im still sure this is what you are feeling by how you describe it.

i had mild cramping too in the beginning. It felt like period cramps. When they say to be concerned about cramping and to call your doctor, they mean painful cramps (usually accompanied by bleeding). I wouldn't worry. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the help ladies. Yeah, my cramping is really mild and I haven't had any blood at all, so I guess i'm worrying myself to death for no reason... Maybe I should take a breather and enjoy my pregnancy  hehehe
