Second Hand Smoke And Bowling

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I use to enjoy
bowling. However, the bowling center
allows smoking. I usually only bowl
about once a week or sometimes even less
and for only 2 hours at a time. My
question is: would that amount of
seondhand smoke be able to cause harm to
the baby? Or is it not enough to really
matter? And is bowling and using a 10-12
pound ball safe during the first trimester
and throughout my pregnancy? I am not
high risk.

I think for the length of time you're
actually there it would be ok!
I went bowling at new year before the
smoking in public ban and I was in my
first trimester and my baby is fine!
I used a 10lb ball also

I would say as long as you don't go all
the time your fine.Second hand smoke is
worss than smoking itself but not too bad
for a short period of time

that was a little bit rude! I haven't
been bowling since I found out I was
pregnant and I was asking b/c I went
bowling before I knew I was. So before
you judge me, know the whole situation.
I was only seeing if the little bit that I
was exposed to before I knew would be
enough to be harmful. So next time
allie, keep your opinion to yourself.

I bowl all the time, however ours doesn't
have any smoking in the place. So I am
not sure. I just switched to a lighter
ball. My doc told me that I would be
able to do anything that I did before I
was preggers (other than drinking and
stuff like that.) in moderation during
pregnancy. Maybe if you found a non
smoking one would be better than bowling
at one with smoking. I don't know
though.

Yeah I thought about that. But I was
nervous so I haven't been back since I
found out I was pregnant. But I live in
a large city so i'm sure I can find an
alley that has no smoking or maybe the one
I go to has non-smoking times.... Hmmmmm

I dont think a couple hours a week in the
lanes would be harmful to your baby.
Besides that the placenta is a very good
filter.
As far as bowling I used to bowl all the
time (14 lb ball) with all my children.
They thought I would have my babies on the
lanes. It was a big joke around our
bowling alley. Spent my whole life in
there while I was pregnant--my whole
family worked there.

Yeah it sucks....... I live in ohio and
they haven't passed that law yet in all
the counties here..... Only a few
counties have passed it and a few stores
and restaurants. And the bowling center
is the worst b/c they have league, and the
entire center is smoking (usually they
have it sectioned to smoke free and
smoking) but I haven't been going b/c i've
been nervous about it... So I guess i'll
trust my "mommy gut" hehehe... I'm coming
to florida so I can bowl. :-)

I went bowling about every week in my
pregnancy and my baby came out very
healthy I had gestational diabetes well
thats what they told me but I never did my
diet and my baby is fine...My husband and
parents smoke so I was around it more than
just the bowling place...I tried to stay
away from it but when all your family does
it it's kinda hard...I went bowling when I
was 2cm. Dilated at 38weeks...

I'm 8 weeks and I am scared to death that
something bad is going to happen.... Any
of you ladies had lower back aches at 8
weeks?

I did, I had lower back pain like I was
going to start my period. I never had
cramps or anything during my period but
the back pain was awful. So I kept
thinking I was going to start soon. But
I never did. I did go a few months
without the pain but now by the end of the
day I have a small ache in my back. It's
not a lot of pain or anything so I am not
worried about it. We are just growing
and getting bigger. But I love my
pooch, well it's not a pooch it more like
a buldge. Lol.

Lol. I have only a pooch still. But I
am trying not to be worried about the
pains but, i'm a first timer and i'm not
sure what to expect ya know? The back
pain is very mild and it comes and goes
and only lasts for a few seconds at a
time. So i'm trying no to be concerned.
But, when you're still in that first
trimester, you have a hard time not
thinking "omg, I hope this pain doesn't
mean i'm going to miscarry"
