Asymmetric (uneven) Face (Page 29)

May 21st, 2011
Omg! I can't believe there are so many ppl with this prob. I noticed my asymmetry in double mirrors and I went to plastic surgeon and said I have mild hemifacial microsomia. But its wierd how no one can really notice what im talking about unless I point it out to them tho. So I guess its not as bad as we think. Its cuz ppl see in 3D and when we look in mirror its 2D so I look very asymmetric!!

I also have a very asymmetrical face--which is caused by my jaw- My left jaw and left cheek bone is much more developed than my right, and I've been told that the cause is part congenital defect and part teeth misalignment.

When you clench your teeth, apparently it stimulates bone growth of your cheekbones and your jaw bones. The left side of my teeth meets perfectly while the right side doesn't not. So I am left with a prominent left face and a weird under-developed right face. It also became more noticeable after I had my braces and have been told I need surgery to fix it.

The human face will always be asymmetrical. Even the most attractive faces out there will have some asymmetry in their faces. The reason is because we developed in our mother's wombed and not in a test tube.

I am planning on getting corrective surgery to fix the asymmetry as it is holding me back in relationships and in my career. If you feel the same, you should definitely get surgery(Start saving up for it or make it a goal) IT IS YOUR BODY, And its your choice! Plus life is SOO short, why not improve it?

Surgery can be one of the method to correct asymmetric face but it depends upon how much asymmetrical it is.

Use of forceps during my birth(1971) to blame??
Hello all!! Something to think about, and research(my next step); I went to see a specialist about my goiter, whether it should be removed or not. Upon examination, he asked me if I had once suffered from Bells Palsy, or 7th nerve palsy. I said I had not. He then asked if forceps were used when I was born and I remarked that I was pretty sure they had been used. He concluded that there had been facial nerve damage on my right side because of the forceps. While this information is useful, it doesn't change 40 years of living with, what I consider chronic, asymmetry. Add to this a few extra pounds manifested in my face, I, too, HATE getting my picture taken. When I cover the offending side of my face, I am fairly pretty, I think. I get SSSOOO depressed when I think about my birth and how pretty(normal) I would've looked had the forceps not been used! Interestingly, I suffer a hearing deficiency, strabismus, esotropia, worse visual acuity, thinner hair, shorter leg, smaller foot and smaller breast ALL on my right side!! Coincidence???? Lastly, I have to consider if the doctor was right or left handed, as the dominant hand would obviously apply more pressure while using the forceps. I'm off to research the use of forceps and the detrimental effect they have had, on me anyway. Hope this helps at least one other person! Take care!

Forceps were used during my birth, causing Bell's Palsy on one side of my face for a month. I truly believe this is the reason for my asymmetry.

I knew that I wasn't the only one but I would've never thought that so many people have the same problem. Well ,like alot of you all have already stated, my face is asymmetric, but no one else notices it but me. It's become a huge insecurity for me and it kinda makes it hard for me to be around other people. True no one else can see it but I can. Also I hate it when people say it's not a big deal. No it's not but it still bothers me. I don't want my face to be perfect but is alittle bit of symmetry to much to ask for? Well I'm trying to just learn to live with it because I'm about to go to college and can't afford to let this bother me any longer. Other than just living with it I thought about covering it up by fattening my face alittle. As long as I can't really tell it won't bother me too much. Surgery is completely out of the question. True it might be the only way to solve this problem but is it the right thing to do?

Hy! I have assymetric face too but it havent been always like that. Im not born with an assymetric face, and i think it developed that way because of chewing with just one side of mouth for last 8 years. My smile and cheeks are uneven. Im 19 now and I would like to know is it too late if I start to chew on the other side of mouth to equalize the muscle tone? Is it even possible? How long would it take?

hi everyone..ive been searching for months already these kind of sites that could help me and understand my situation and im so glad ive found this. Im so depressed recently about the deformity that misaligned jaw/teeth caused me.. It was not so alarming to me from the previous years but now lot of my friends observed that my teeth are crooked. My boyfriend used to tell me that my nose is assymetric and yes, he is right. Im so conscious right now of how people see and think when they see my face especially when I talk. I already see my ortho and said I have left crossbite. They advised me to do panoramic xrays and have'nt yet done coz I am busy. What I do right now is find/research treatment or ways of correcting my face and I feel so sad when I always end up finding somebody having surgery. Aside from the cost, I am afraid and I see them with inflamed faces for a month after the operation.. I am hoping that braces will do for me..

I have the same problem as you! Left crossbite and assymetric nose. At first I thought my face is assymetric because of chewing with just one side of teeth or sleeping at just one side of face. But my crossbite turns out to be the reason of my uneven face. It bothers me a lot. I dont feel pretty anymore at all Sad First time I realized my assymetry was when I got my first camera. My boyfriend also has told my I have assymetric nose. I didnt even think its so noticeable.

This caused me to lose my confidencce. I hate taking pictures coz it would only show how assymetric my face is.I think my nose is becoming bigger to look in right side. My bite is not aligned and i have bruxicsm too. My jaw pops/click when I yawn. I tried to align my bite most of the time to cover the assymetry but my jaw will hurt and so does my head.

Oh I also wanted to ask you is it really possible to fix left cross bite by braces? I thought only surgery can fix it. If braces can fix your bite why are you worried? You can after that fix your nose if it would still bother you. What haircut do you have? Haircut with side layers can make wonders for assimetry. Also nice plucked eyebrows and make up. Smile

ok guys I think that you should all chill. I thought I had this problem, and obsessed over it for about 2 months. I cried and was really upset, but then I just decided that I would just take a picture of myself with a real camera. So I took the picture and it turns out that my face is fine. I look just like what I look like in the regular mirror. I think that you guys should just take the picture so that you know what you look like, and if you look like the double mirror then go talk to a plastic surgeon. Obsessing over it will not do anything; only a professional can do anything. I'm almost sure that all of you will be surprised to see that you look absolutely normal, and that worrying about this was silly. I'm just doing this so that you guys can feel the relief that I feel now that I know that I look fine.

thank you,but people around me gives me those worries. I guess some of my friends were just afraid to ask why my face looks assymetric. And yeah, I remember when I went to the province after a year, my highschool friends wondered and that my face looked deformed. I was like, Uh..uh.. I am not sure if this could be fixed with braces, though I hope so! But most of the situations I have known thru internet was that operation is the only answer.

Asymmetry
Any asymmetry is likely the cause of over active jaw on either side. I am 23 years old and just developed this within the last year. Unfortunately, the left side of my jaw has grown 3mm more than the right. I am currently wearing a expander with hopes of alligning my bite some, but I don't believe this is improving anything. I have caved to the idea of surgery. Braces will not fix assymetry. They will align the teeth properly to create the illusion of a straight bite but jaw surgery is the only way to actually correct the asymmetry of the face. It is worth the time and money to do it. I've researched jaw surgery for quite some time now and the results are phenominal.

Hello,
When my brace came off recently, my perfect smile highlighted the fact that my lower face was all out of alignment. I felt very depressed and deformed and all I could see was my chin sitting unattractively to one side. I prayed to God about this. Then I woke up in the night with the realization of what had been causing my deformity. I had been habitually sleeping on my side and my face leaning on my arm and fist forcing my jaw in one direction. Then I found this website.http://www.galiffasyndrome.com/ I certainly noticed a big improvement by changing sleeping position but it is early days. I would be interested in other people's opinions.

assymetrical face
Hey guys. i also have an assymetrical face and it has botherd me for years. I am 19 now. three way mirrors are the worst and make it look so bad like one side is bigger than the other. However i think that it is the mirror that makes it look so much worse than it is. no one else notices it except me and i get told i am attractive so it cant be as bad as i think. If you video your face, 360 degrees you will see that it actually isnt that obvious and what you see is more true to real life than mirrors or photos. I am looking into jaw implants just for my own peace of mind.

Same common problem.
Right jaw lower and better defined then left. It's nice to know I'm not alone. But seriously, no one else do the 90 degree mirror trick it just makes you feel terrible.
My asymmetry is really obvious and I've never had angry villagers chase me with pitch forks and flaming torches so I think it might be worse in my eyes then in others.
I hate that this is the face I have to present to the world but this is the face I have to present to the world and there is no use lamenting it. Maybe one day I'll get plastic surgery or just grow a huge beard.

Hello all!

im a bit relieved that there are others so have this same issue. i sympathyize with all because i know the pain and confusion of living life and thinking how do i really look.

the left side of my face is completely different than the right. ive noticed this morso about 3 years ago. it kind of came on very=y sudden, but now its taken its toll and ihave lost so much self esteem. i feel ugly and deformed. I feel my right side is puffy, like the jaw is more thicker. the left side, you can see a nicer contour, and the eye always looks better.

i too have gone to the eye doctor, yet he didnt find anything. even telling me that he would not have noticed until i mentioned it. been told im attractive and pretty, but i dont see it. especially with a double reflection.

would love to send/post picture and would like real blunt honest opinions.

thanks! xoxo
