I'm looking for a primary care physician. . .Is it better to have a family practice doctor or ob/gyn or internist? So many specialties to choose from.

Do you have any reccomendations from a relative? Its alot easier when you hear good words about a doc when its from someone you trust. I am looking to go the same doc as my mother and sister, who they have been seeing and trust for over 5 years. You can look at that or just choose who you want. Good luck!

You make an answer abit hard; I mean if you're pregnant then personally i'd go with an ob/gyn but then i'd never risk a home birth while others have found this a magical experience. If you're having "female" type problems then it really depends on you, what you feel is right for you??

Whatever the situation you need to go with what & who (the person as a person not as a dr) that "feels" right that "suits" you.

I have had the same gp for 13 years & she's great down to earth & honest about what she's not sure of but have now found a psychiatrist who sees my daughter but not as a psychiatrist (he's abit moer like an old fashioned dr who treats the whole person not just one part) & he without actually saying so obviously feels that i've not had the best treatment in some areas. So i'm seeing him about my weight (over!!) my back trouble & so forth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So you should always keep your mind open as to where you might find new or better treatment.

I say get a specialist for each care you need, but for a primary doc..I suggest a family physician.
