Hey there,

i just had a question about orthotricyclen. My doc prescribed it today and she told me I would have to use a back up method for a whole months bc I wouldnt be protected until I took the pill for a month. But I have heard when I start taking it with th first day of my period, which is next week, I am protected right away. Others say use back up for one or two weeks.
When does my protection start, I am a little confused right now.
Maybe somebody can help me out!
Thanks!!!!

Extremely eHealthy
Most docs say a month because many women forget some pills here and there, and they want to make sure take it.

But read your information leaflet, it does clearly state that when taken on the first day you start your period you are protected immediately, any other time you wait 7 full days. It is all in your bc instructions..

Back Up Methods- Spermicides, Sponge Etc.
Hey :d ,

two days ago I started taking ortho tri cyclen with the first day of my period (!No side effects so far). The leaflet said I would be protected right away, but it still bothers me that my doc said I would have to wait 30 days before I am able to have unprotected sex. ( even though I took the mini pill before ortho tri cyclen and the doc told me I would be protected right away and I was bc I had unprotected sex 24hrs later)
well my fiance and I are thinking about back up methods, but we both dont like the condom. Does anybody has any experience with spermicides or the sponge?? Does a guy feel the sponge while having sex?
I hope someone can help me out!
Thanks.
