Hi! I just got a prescription of alesse, an oral contraceptive, and I was wondering, in the instructions, it says to begin taking pills, starting with the first active pill, on day 1. It then goes on to say day 1 is the first day of bleeding. Does this mean that I will have a period on days 1-5, or that the active pills will stop it?

Thanks for the time and answers in advance.

Just as it says, take it on the first day of your period. You will continue to have a period - it may be shorter or longer than usual, and 'spotting' is common. It all depends how your body reacts to the hormone.

Once you've finished all the active pills in your pack, it'll take a couple of days for your period to come. You'll get used to the cycle with time, just follow the instructions.
