I have two daughters that have been
diagnosed with scoleosis, one is 15 and is
a ballet ballerina, will it affect her
performance? And she has a lump con the
right side of the back waist, I already
seen a doctor and a quiropractor, they
both tell me that there is nothing I can
do to improve her condition, do you have
any advise?
My other daughter is 23 and she has also
scoleosis, we discovered when we saw the
waistline one is curved and the other
isnīt is there something we can do to
correct this malformation?

There is a surgery they can perform. A
friend of mine had it done. They put a
metal rod up and down your spine to
straighten it out. But with this rod u
can only bend at the waist...You cannot
arch your back or bend it.

Surgery is only for very bad cases. Some
cases get so bad it can restrict
breathing.
With a mild case there really isn't
anything that can be done. Both your
daugthers bones are most likley done
growing so there symptoms should not get
any worse.
This is just something that happens to
some children for no reason!

You should talk to your doctor. Often
times they can be braced so that they
curve won't progress. I had the surgery
and make sure it is a last resort.
Bracing isnt so bad.

Scoleosis Posted: 07-12-04 12:39pm
My son had a spinal fusion a year ago and
his scoleosis was rather bad and
eventually it would have crushed other
body parts. My son has other medical
problems but when he hit his teens year it
rapidly got worse so we proceeded w/ the
surgery. He is very limited in his
movement. Tried bracing w/out much
success but that was just in his case.
Scoleosis can be painful for some. I
would discuss more options w/ the doctor.

I am 19 and both me and my sister have had
the spinal fusion surgery. Both of our
scoliosis cases were severe (50 degrees at
time of surgery). A lot of people have
curvature in their spines and it will
never affect them. Go to the doctor and
have them track the progress of the curves
over time. Usually, they think 50
degrees is the cutoff point for surgery.
Keep in mind that this is a major surgery
and it is very expensive and it takes a
long time to recover. Hopefully your
daughter's scoliosis will not
worsen--usually after girls finish
growing, the curve stops also (not so in
my case). Good luck and just keep an eye
on any pain she might have.
