Hi I am a 21yr old female and have been dating my bf for 6 months.I have started using the pill this year and have so far tried 3 pills. I started on yasmin then levlen ed and am now on microgynon 50 ed. All 3 pills have caused me to have breakthrough bleeding everyday when taking them. I have been on microgynon 50 ed for 1 month now and have just started to sugar pill section and have gotten my proper period. I have been bleeding for the entire 21 other days though. My dr has told me there is no stronger pill that she can give me...Is this true? If so what do I do next? My bf has been very patient and has been very understanding through all of this but it is getting very annoying seeing as though I am too self concious to have sex while bleeding. What can I do? What is wrong with me? Please help.

Hi:
unfortunately, this could possibly just be the way your body is reacting to the pill. I am sorry, I bet this is very frustrating. Spotting is very common the first couple months on the pill, and it could be that switching is causing you problems. I would give the pill you are on right now a little more time, just so your body can get used to it. Chances are that the problem will get better with time as you are regulated by the hormones. If there is no improvement, then I would consider another form of birth control, like perhaps the nuva ring. It is just as reliable as the pill, only different. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Nuva ring is an excellent reccommendation!

Many women who have spotting and other problems on other birth control will do fine on nuva ring! Also you can always give your body a few months to adjust just in case..

Yes, I experienced spotting on birth control pills too, but my spotting occured after I had been on the pill for a while. I switched to the nuva ring and it's been about 6 months and I have had no breakthrough bleeding! I have had discharge daily though. But this is no big deal. My fiance doesn't notice it, and it's not an infection.
