Q: Do Psychoses require medical attention? Are Psychoses Cured
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 11th, 2006
Hi, can someone please explain to me the symptoms of physcosis, my partner is married to a woman who suffers from this (maybe also schizophrenia), this is the reason he cannot leave her, she has suffered this affliction for about 10 years, but in the last 3/4 years her condition has became worse, she does not leave the house and is dependent on him to do the shopping, cleaning and cooking. She recieves no visitors other than her mother (twice a week) this is because she does not want to see anyone, they also have a 20 year old son, but my partner says she does not really speak to anyone. From what I know she is sometimes aggressive and violent and he says that she lives in another world and speaks without making any sense. She does not receive any medical attention (surely this cant be right), she was previously on tranquillizers but my partner decided to stop this as she became a zombie. Can this be cured? Should she receive more medication?

Mental Conditions Answer A957
Psychoses are very severe psychiatric disorders. This group of psychiatric disorders contains schizophrenia, paranoia, bipolar disorder, et. al. Some people suffering from a diagnosed psychotic disorder can be potentially dangerous to the environment and are placed in a hospital. Treatment depends upon the type of disorder. Treatment for pychoses is usually very complex and time consuming; treatment continues for life. It seems that medical help from an expert-psychiatrist is necessary, in the case of your partner's wife.
