Q: Worried! Folic Acid
asked by: SAM1 on April 9th, 2006

I recently found out that I am 3 months pregnant. I started taking folic acid as soon as I found this out.

However I am extemely worried for not taking it earlier, I jus cant stop worrying about my baby. Cant stop thinking about the what ifs. Every pregnancy book I read states that folic acid is a must and should be taken during 1st trimester. Cant help but think that I may have cuased a serious problem for my baby by not taking folic acid.

Is any one else in the same situation?
Are ther any mums or mum to bes who hav not taken them too? Can you please advise.

Thnx

You and the baby should be perfectly fine and as long as you are now taking 1000 mcg a day, the development of the fetus should go great.

At this point, you should be going along great and now it is time to stop worrying and get into being pregnant. This is your time and everyone should be taking great care of you now.

Just don't forget to take your vitamins and if you want to take a little something extra, enfamil now has a supplement of dha/ara that is not fish based that can support brain and cns development.

good luck and congratulations, its time to party with virgin daquris and lots of whipped cream!

I know how you feel. I worried about that, as well. As long as you're taking it now, things should be fine. Honestly, even if you weren't taking it now, if you have a healthy enough diet, things would probably be okay, but of course it's best to do everything you can to have a healthy baby.

Congratulations! We would all be dead if we would worry about if we would have, could have, should have done this or that, I did not realize that I was pregnant as I had no signs until about my 4th month, I even had my periods up to my 3rd month and my son weighed 10 lbs. 2 ounces at birth and very healthy, just do not stress yourself over it as stress is not good on pregnancy, you will be fine, just be and think positive.
The best to you and yours!

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're taking it now you should be fine. Besides, there's nothing you can do about it now (i mean, not taking it sooner) so why worry about something you can't change. Congrats on your pregnancy! When are you due?
