Q: Newbie Would Like Advice

Hi everyone,

i have what I think is hypoglycaemia. On several occasions over the years my glucose level has been low, but lately the past lot of months i've been feeling more symptoms. I have epilepsy that was diagnosed last year as well as wolff parkinson white syndrome which is a heart condition and i'm not sure if its the meds causing the low levels or something else. :?

My husband is a paramedic and brought home a little glucose level tester and when we did it first thing in the morning my level was 34 and the reading said low. The symptoms I get are head rushes of dizziness, increased heart rate, extreme weakness and tiredness, headache and nausea and have on occasions actually thrown up which sucks royally! :? I keep glucose tablets with me to suck on when I feel bad and I eat like a horse throughout the day, so I really don't understand it.

I'm going to see a dr when I get the time to do so but what sort of treatment is there for this sort of thing or is there anything else that I can do?

Thanks in advance,

kat :d

You can only fix your diet. In your case you're going to need to make sure doing so has no effect on your other conditions.

What sort of foods should I be eating? I eat a lot but i'm very slim . Never have been able to put on weight! I'm 5 ft 5 and half and I weigh around 110 lbs. I'm very active but lately this has been made harder because I can't run for as long as I used to be able to.

Any advice is welcome, thanks.

Extremely eHealthy
Try to eat more often, keep snacks by your bed, think about getting a second opinion especially regarding your meds or you or your hubby do some research on your meds. I am no dr so I can just give you my suggestion what I would do if I were in your position! Sure hope you get to feeling better!
The best to you and yours!

You should be eating once every two hours at first, increase fat if you find you can't keep on weight. Look further down for my diet post and you'll get all the information you need.

Hypoglycemia
I also have epilesy (loss of awareness) and hypoglycemia, after my doctor told me "i normally do not tell my patients to eat candy, but keep so m & m's or sweet with me. But, do I always have to eat candy. I am overweight and I need to watch intake of sweets or what else can be included to eat to help raise sugar :?: ?

Your doctor told you to eat candy? What an fool, you can't eat candy. Awful. You'll get diabetes if you keep doing that or the symptoms will become so bad you may literally go insane. Fruit is the only sugar you should be eating, please read my diet post. What do you mean by "loss of awareness?" I thought epilepsy was when you went into convulsions because of a faulty process in the brain.

Loss of Awareness
I have had grand mal seizures, age 10-24 years old and staring spells throughout age 10-currently, I also have seizures where: I can talk, but I will not be able to state the correct thing, example: if I was to say "i am moving to a apt." it might come out "where people live".
Sometimes I have moments where I cannot hear what someone is saying or I cannot understand even when I have help and if someone points or says look at the paper" I look at them like "what are you talking about?". This happens mainly when I am upset or get confused :)

I've never heard of this, I was always under the assumption, from a friend that had it, that it only involved conluvions and loss of consciousness, what you're describing is more like temporary catatonia. If so, this is strictly low blood sugar. I've never heard of any epileptic experiencing this or at least considering it part of the disease.

Hey there this is getting off the topic of hypoglycemia , but epilepsy isn't a disease. Its a condition  i'm well savvy with epilepsy now and it can be from a simple far off stare to convulsive attacks called tonic clonic seizures which is the type that I have.

Okay, thanks then, I just didn't know. So it's not considered a disease? I guess that makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the correction, I was totally unaware that epilepsy can also manifest like this.
