Hey my girlfriend just got an antibiotic for her lungs today. It's called zifromax or something like that and she told me that antibotics cancel out the effect of birthcontrol or something. This worried me. Whats the chance of her birthcontrol not working shes been on it for about 3 months and only missed 1 sugar pill and was late for 3 regulars but took them right when she woke up the next day.

There's a chance for her to get pregnant even if she takes the pill religiously and nothing interferes.

As for the medicine "cancelling out" something, I don't really know. She should talk to her doctor about that.

I got pregnant on antibiotics and birth control. They actually decrease effectiveness by around 10%..Use another method as well.

Anti-biotics definately decrease the effectiveness of birth control, like the pp said, double up!

Your girlfriend can miss as many sugar pills as she likes, there is nothing in them... They just help you to keep in the routine.

As everyone has said...Yes some medication can make birth control less effective or noneffective...Maybe your girlfriend should consider talking with her doctor about changing her medication to one that is similiar that will not mess with her birth control..Not saying that is possible...But its worth a try...Anyways another suggestion would be to use condoms or to stop having sex until something is figured out about her medication and things
