Q: Ovulating On Pill

I am on the pill, and I was wondering what happens when I skip the week of placebo pill. I know if I skip the placebo pills I wont my period, but when would I be ovulating? On a 28 day cycle, women ovulate on day 14, but if I skip the week of placebos, do I count the week where I would have taken the placebos as week 1 ?

Okay the pill stops ovulation, even if you do not take the placebos and skip your periods by taking another pack.

The pill only fails to stop ovulation if you do not take them correctly.

What exactly do you mean? Please clarify.

Normally if you stop taking the pill you ovulate on day 14. Now if you skip the placebos for that month, and if you stop taking your pills after that, do you still ovulate on day 14 for that month?

You may still ovulate on day 14, but many women will ovulate immediately, and thgen resume a normal cycle. That is why it is easier to get pregnant right after stopping a pill. So if you stop the pill expect to be able to get pregnant immediately and use a back up if needed.

Oh that helps alot. 1 more question if you dont mind... If I extend my last week of active pills by 1 day (i take an extra pill), and then proceed with the placebos and I have sex during the first couple of days of the placebo week, will I be at risk of gettinng pregnant? I know normally you have a low risk of getting pregnant during that week, but would takinng an extra active pill offset that? Thanks again for the reply

Taking an extra active pill is okay :) but you wanna make sure that your placebo week is no longer than 7 days.

ovulating on birth control
i had a question which is probably common but im a pretty paranoid person so i thought it wouldnt hurt to ask and find out..

im on the pill and i take it everyday without forgetting for a while now but i dont take it at the exact same time every night..i just take it at night at whatever time..i had sex without another form of BC besides my pill at around the day i would usually ovulate if not being on the pill..i was wondering if i have a greater or lesser chance of getting pregnant from that..

thanks

Normally it is better to take it the same time everyday, but in the following case it is ESSENTIAL:
Taking the progestin-only pill at the same time each day is essential — if you take it more than three hours past the regular time, you need to use a back up method of birth control for 48 hours after taking the late pill. So you see it depends upon what type of pill you are on.

I take my birth control regularly at the same time. I use a condom every time. During the placebo week, I usually only menstruate one or two days. Can you become pregnant during this week if you have sex and are not menstruating?

I skip the "period pills" in the pack sometimes and just go to the next active week in the pack. It doesn't hurt and you are just as protected.

When you are on the pill, you DON'T ovulate or at least you SHOULDN'T. The hormones in the pill prevent ovulation, but if it happens for whatever reason, the hormones also mimic the hormones produced by a fertilized egg to prevent any sperm from trying to get in. Also, the reason why you have a period on the "period pills" is because those contain no hormone. The lack of hormone causes a sudden drop in hormone levels in the body and trigger a period. This also happens naturally in the body.

So skipping the "period pills" in the pack is fine, but I woudln't do it longer than 1 week. Also, if you skip that week for an extra active week, you should go on the period pills the week after so your body doesn't freak out.

I hope that was clear. Good luck
