41yo And Gout Infested! Help! Posted: 04-06-06 20:02pm
G'day everyone. Wow, im glad I found this
forum.
Recently, sick of having gout all the time
I started a course of allopurinol. Of
course this triggers more attacks. But I
thought , better I tackle this head on,
and endure the pain, and become gout free.
Well, its 3 months later, im sitting
here, cant walk, have taken 50mg of
panafcort (steroid anti inflam) so far
today (its 10 am) as well as all the other
medication; fish oil, folic acid, progout
(allopurinol), celery tablet, multi
vitamin, and 5mg of colturcene. It says
on the net that it will take several
months for the allopurinol to work over
this period, and attacks will increase in
severity and frequency. They certainly
have. I need the steroids for every bi
weekly attack. I hate taking them, but
ive got to walk!
Im motivated to continue with the
allopurinol and beat this gout. Im
interested in the bi carb soda (baking
soda) experiment I read here earlier, ill
take some of that too to see how it
goes.
Has anyone here some advice on anything
ive said?
My uric acid levels 18 months ago were
6.5. Normal is 4. Two weeks ago my blood
test registered 2.5. So hopefully im
winning. However, although I have no
visible tophi, except in my right ear rim,
(a small nail head sized lump in my foot
which has shrunken dramatically) I believe
that the attacks im getting now is from
these breaking up? Am I right to assume
this?
I had my first attack at 27. I started
getting them frequently at 36. Im now 41.
Does anyone have any ideas etc please.

Hi 41
i can sympathize with your pain because I
experienced gout pain myself for 15 years.
The immediate and total cure for my gout
was to get rid of my sleep apnea. Maybe
that will work for you too. Good luck.

Hi, 41gout,
in order to understand your conditions
better, may I ask you, if you don't mind,
the following questions.
1) gout attacks which of your joints?
2) have the joint fluids been tested for
msu crystals?
3) have you had a 24-hour urine uric acid
excretion test? If yes, how many mg of
ua was excreted in 24 hours?
4) how many mg of progout do you take a
day? In how many doses?
5) by "colturcene" do you mean
"colchicine"? You take 5 mg a day in how
many divided doses? How long have you
been taking it?
6) what kind of foods, fruits, juices,
carbonated drinks, alcoholic beverages, do
you consume?
7) were the two blood tests you mentioned
performed during gout attacks?
You may like to read "emergency gout
treatment" and section 2 of http://www.Icuredmygout.Org to
see if they help.
Take care.

Fish oil did magic to me. Never saw fish
oil in recommendations but it magically
worked for me. I told more about my
experience in the Fish Oil thread on this
forum. Good luck.
