I am early in pregnancy, and have cervical cancer. I found out both at the same time today. I don't know what to do.. This is my first pregnancy, and after all that time trying.. The doctor said aborton was an option, or a high risk pregnancy.. I can't make this choice.. Please help me.

Is it cervical cancer or dysplasia? What grade cervical cancer?

Why would the pregnancy be considered high risk?

((hugs)) I am sorry you have to deal with this, especially when it should be such a joyful time!

i am assuming high risk because of the cancer. I am positive she said cancer, because that's a pretty scary word. I haven't told my hubby yet. I am scared to he will be really sad. I am just going to do some research now. Thanks for responding so quickly. I feel so confused.

what kind of testing did she do to come to the cervical cancer conclusion? And what stage is it? Cervical cancer is very treatable.

how did she test you for cervical cancer? Cervical cancer isn't detectable visually. You need to be tested for it.

Women get pap smears every year to detect cervical abnormalities. In general, it takes at least a few days for a pap smear to come back. Rarely the pap smear will say 'cancer', but if there are cervical abnormalities you will be sent to have a biopsy done. When you have that biopsy done, it takes another few days to 2 weeks for those results.

What i'm saying is, I am sorry your doctor said the word cancer at all - because it doesn't sound as if you've had any of these tests yet.

It takes a very long time for cervical abnormalities to progress to cancer. How long has it been since your last pap smear?

yeah it sounds like your doctor was being a little presumptuous. Thats a little unprofessional.

i agree! It makes me sad that she has put this girl through this. That doctor needs to think a little bit before she just starts throwing out the 'cancer' word.

Eta: sadiedales, none of this was meant in any way to belittle your feelings. I know how scary it is when someone tells you that you have cancer. I want to reassure you that it doesn't sound as if there were any of the usual tests performed and nothing is concrete yet. If it is cervical cancer it is easily dealt with. I am sorry you have to deal with this and pregnancy at the same time. Good luck and pm me if you need someone to talk to.
