Q: Tmj Surgery

I have just had tmj surgery, they cut both sides and wired my teeth shut, was in icu for 2 nights, on a respirator, the whole 9 yards .... I'm icing my face all day long to try to reduce the swelling, my goodness I look like a chipmunk ... Any idea how long I can expect this to last before I start to look normal-ish? And any suggestions for food? Soup broth is getting old real fast.

hi scrappyblue,
what kind of surgery was it? Did you have implants placed? Or was it orthognathic surgery?

I would expect that your swelling will be around for a couple weeks, although I am sure it will go down significantly after the first week or so.

I went and checked out the link catswold gave you and it is good. They have a forum for nutrition with recipes for different meals that are liquid and soft.

Hope you feel better soon!
