I like to be nice and close to all that nice medical equipment thanks :)

remember too that your choices for pain relief are limited. For example you wont be able to have an epidural at home.

Yes iv herd of contraception I was on it for this baby and I had no drugs and a 2 then 3 hour labour in hospital so the drugs are no problem

erin, I don't know anything about home births, sorry, maybe try the pregnancy forum---this ones been a little too dramatic the past couple weeks..So getting real advice is pretty well impossible.

I was planning on having a home birth, things didnt work out I became high risk and midwives referred me to an ob gyn so I lost out. I had a fast labor with my first and even faster with my second but honestly if you can have a home birth do it I would have loved too!! You are a bit more relaxed at home and your the one with more control as to in a hospital you loose all your dignity!

They wont let you have a home birth if you live far away, but nowadays you have more choice and id rather be at home then in a doing it hospital room!!!!

I would have liked a homebirth but the person I was living with at the time wouldn't hear of it. So I had a hospital birth which was awesome.

I am really interested in a home birth too. But, .Medicade won't cover it...I don't think. So i'm going to go drug - free for this birth.

I know it's going to be hard but it's not like it's impossible.

My family is very encouraging but my ob/gyn is another story...He thinks that I won't be able to do it. It's all about proving myself and my woman hood to the people who doubt me.

I know I won't get a trophy for no drugs, but i'll know forever that I am capable.

i can't fathom trying to have a home birth. I'm terrified as it is - maybe because this is my first - but I couldn't imagine not having access to drugs and/or (god forbid) an operating table and nicu.

No, i'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, this is just my opinion.

I saw a lady do a home birth on tlc one day. She had the baby without too much of a problem, but she had to go to the hospital afterward because she was losing a lot of blood. She had basically her entire family helping with the birth. I'm sorry, but my brother (for instance) will be nowhere near my uncovered hoo-hoo when that baby comes out. I love him to pieces, but geez. Lol.

Lol...I understand where you coming from too with the operating room or nicu (incase of a shoulder distocia..When the shoulders get caught and the baby isn't able to breathe)

this is my 1st child too and I know for a fact that it'll be painful. My periods hurt like hell! But I am literally more terrified of a needle going into my spine, than I am of intense cramping. Another reason why I want to go drug free is because I want to feel it. I want to know exactly how difficult it really is to have this human life physically come out of my body. Plus...It'll probably prevent me from wanting another baby anytime soon!!

They only tend to let you have a homebirth if you are close enough to be transferred to a hospital if need be, so there's really not much danger. If you live way out and nowhere near a hospital, you aren't going to find many midwives or ob/gyns who are willing to let you even attempt a homebirth. :-)

you also have access to drugs. I believe a midwife can administer an epidural or fentanyl or other drugs. But most people who are looking in to a homebirth plan to have a natural birth so it's not much of a consideration to them.

anyway, I thought about home delivery, but because of my emergancy c-section last time I have to have a repeat one this time and in case of rupture should I go into labor I need to be near a hospital. I haven't really put too much thought into it since I found out that.

Have you heard of a vbac? (vaginal birth after c-section)...They're not too common because of the chance of rupture, but it is possible. How long ago was the c - section? Have you talked to your .Dr about a vaginal birth or has he/she made that decision in the best interest for you and the baby?

I was just wondering these things because I know someone who had a c - section and 3 years later had a vaginal birth.

hey sarah, yes I have heard of vbac, they wanted me to try vbac however once they reviewed my medical records and the incision was a vertical incision into the uterus and it has a 15% more chance of rupture than a normal horizontal incision. My doctor listened to my concerns on delivering vagionaly, and she expressed her concerns on the effect it could have on the incision should I acctually start contracting. I delivered hunter 2 years ago on 04/15/04 and since he was so little 1.5 lbs the vertical incision was nessisary for the safty of the baby. (dont' ask me why I am not sure).

So my Dr. Stated that it would be in the best intrest of me and the baby to have another c-section before I acctually go into labor. I will go along with what she said...But she is the dr now isn't she.

I really love the idea of a home birth. Unfortunately, the risk is just too much for me. So many babies are fine right up until the end, and then just about anything could happen. If something were to happen to me or the baby, I would like to already be at the hospital and have doctors already there to take care of the situation.

I have heard and read about a lot of home births, and it sounds like an absolutely fanstastic experience. I have actually never ever heard of anything going wrong (in real life anyway), so if you are not a natural high strung worrier (like me), and you are low risk I think a homebirth would be great.

I wouldn't risk it, so many things can go wrong during labour its best to have doctors and equipment close by just incase, aswell as it being total agony until you get some medication.....Nooo way. Maybe your first 2 labours werent that bad, some women are lucky there!

i am thinking of bringing the fandom_wank method of dealing with trolls/people who fill you with rage/whatever into play. Say 'okay!' when they make a post, and then ignore them. Drives them nuts if they're going for attention, and avoids flame wars.
