Q: How can I manage Panic Attacks?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 3rd, 2006
I have been having anixeity problems for over a year now. Close to two, I would suppose. I took medicine at first at the advice of my doctor. He had me on Lexapro. I didn't feel that it helped.
My problem is that I get afraid a lot. Afraid that something bad is going to happen... and mostly afraid that I am going to FEEL the feeling, the tight knot in my stomach.. the lump in my throat... the nausious feeling that screams RUN. I am afraid a lot of the time that if I put myself in the situation where I have had those feelings before that I am going to have those feelings. I'm sorry if this sounds cunfusing. But I am confused as well about this. I want to know if there is anyway, without use of medicine, that I can resist or fight the scared feeling. I hate feeling that way. And it "brings me down" when I feel like that. Please help me if you can. I really need something to help me. Thank you for your help in adavnce... ~afraidtopanic

It seems likely that you are suffering from a neurotic disorder (panic attacks) that is quite common in our day and time. Doctors treat panic attacks using psycho therapy and medicines. You can seek expert help from a-psychiatrist to learn more about the allopathic method of treatment. If you are interested in more traditional, natural approaches, you might consider learning breathing techniques to help calm the mind. Meditation, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, etc. are ancient tools that have worked for centuries. You might be interested in learning one of them to help find inner calm.
