Q: Quitting the Pill, Effects On Period?

My girlfriend quit the pill last month, and a couple days after her period ended, we had sex and the condom broke, the next morning she took emergency contraception. 20 days later, (three days ago) she took a pregnancy test and came up negative. Here is the thing: she was supposed to have her period start 5 days ago, and it still hasnt. She has had on and off cramps, but still no period.

Does getting off the pill sometimes delay the period this long? How much longer should it take? Anyone had this happen to them?

Yes, going off the pill can cause periods to be irregular for a while. This is because her body has been used to getting hormones from the pill, and now it is suddenly not getting those hormones. It can throw off her cycle for a while, probably the next two or three months. Just make sure you keep using condoms that fit you properly with spermicide.

If I may ask, why did she quit using the pill if she is still having sex? Was it because of the side effects?

Well, it wasnt by choice. She forgot to order a new pack of pills, so she had to go off bc until her next cycle.

So now my girlfriend is almost a month late for her period. Pregnancy tests are still coming up negative, so what's with this massive delay? Also recently she's been feeling sick everytime she eats. Anyone heard of this before? I'm wondering if maybe a doc would have away to kick start her period... Ideas, anyone?

her cycle is messed up from the hormones from both the birth control and the emergency contraceptives. She needs to commit to a birth control and stick to it - then she wouldn't find herself a month late on her period.

*edited to add*sorry that sounded b*tchy. It wasn't meant to. You knew the answer to your own question. Don't go to the doctor, he won't do anything to jumpstart anything, you'll pay the fee for him to tell her to wait until she starts her period and make a decision on what birth control method she can stick with. Good luck.

They can give her provera to jumpstart her period, or she can start her pills anytime...

Yes, anytime! She would just need to wait a week for protection..

Whereas if you start the pill when you stat your period you are protected immediately.
