Epilepsy And Sleep Talking

Hi everyone i'm kate.

Has anyone ever experienced sleep talking and seizures?

My partner has had epilepsy for two years and only experiences seizures during his sleep - in general his seizures are pretty well controlled.

The last couple of nights he has started talking in his sleep, he has been having full conversations with me and had even said he is awake and opened his eyes and looked at me but has had no recollection of any of it in the morning.

Last night we were watching a film and he fell asleep on the sofa, he had been asleep for about an hour. When I tried to wake him up he talked alot of rubbish at me. He then sat up looked at me and said "where's kate" (i am kate)! I thought he was messing around and dismissed it. He then got up and went upstairs, got in bed looked at me and said "where's kate, this is kate's house".

This really freaked me out. I was scared he was going to have a fit that night. But I am also scared because the epilepsy has resulted from a brain injury and I really hope this is not a further problem.

I have insisted that we go to the docs to check this out - am I being paranoid? Is this just sleep walking and talking?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

kate

Don't wake him up when he is sleeping. Proper sleep is essential to keeping the seizure threshold high.

The rubbish talk that he can't remember sounds like he was in a post-ictal state (confused state following a seizure). It's fairly common and normal following a seizure.
