Q: What can cause bumps, dryness, and swelling around the lips?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 3rd, 2006
For about 10 days, I have been getting tiny bumps and dryness all around the edge of my lips, and since yesterday, my lips are starting to swell. I am thinking it may be allergies - this happened after I ate some Indian food cooked at home - but I have never in my life experienced food allergies before, and I have eaten and made Indian food many times with no problems. I have had allergies like Hay Fever, but never food. Can allergies like this, just pop-up like this? I happen to be pregnant at the moment, so I am thinking this may also contribute to the reason. How long should I wait to see a doctor about this? It doesn't bother me terribly, so I just put tons of lip cream on my lips to keep them smooth, but if there are any other remedies that I could try for the time being, I would appreciate it.

The bumps, dryness, and swelling around your lips could be an allergic reaction...but also it could be caused by an infection (probably viral). I recommend you visit your GP to indetify the cause of your symptoms proof-positive.
