I was diagnosed about half a year ago as bipolar 2 rapid cycling with some mixed.

I started taking seroquel and lamictal (no deadly rash occurred thank god) however I am very nervous that these drugs could possibly make me sicker than I am. Seems like in just a 15 minute session with the doc I can't get much reassurance.

Very small doses of the seroquel have a major effect on me. I can only increase 12.5 milligrams at a time. Once or twice during an increase I heard loud noises in my head as I fell asleep. I told the doc about this and he wasn't concerned.

Nonetheless I am still very scared. I was programmed by my parents not to believe in drugs (they are much more ill than I am but I do not want to live like them). And I realize that the drugs I am taking didn't hit the market until the 90's so there must not be much information on long-term effects.

Does anyone have any reassurance? Anyone been on the drugs for several years and feeling fine? Obviously I am a bit of a hypochodriac. I wasn't worried until my mom recently found out I was taking an antipsychotic and she freaked me out.....

Your concerns about the side effects is valid but you do not need to feel nervous about it. Any psychiatrist prescribes medicine along with medicines for side effects if required. Please remember they are the ones who have seen similar patients many a times and do really know how the drug works.
The doctor definitely listens to your problem , and is concerned , only he knows that what you are telling him is not the side effect. Hearing a voice is the actual problem of the illness not the side effect.
Please trust your doctor.
Medicines really do work. Trust me. I myself was out of this for several times just with medicines.
Medication differs from individual to individual.
Do not be too concerned about side effects. 16 years is long enough period , and al the medications are released only after careful study.

I am not a supporter of the medication , but I do believe they work nicely and I trust the doctor.

Understand your medication well , but trust your doctor. Unless you really find any side effect , do not worry about the side effects listed .

Hope you would recover soon and manage yourself. God bless you.
