First Big Trip

Don't thinking i'm gloating or something, this is to give people an idea that things will always get better. Two months ago I would have been terribly frightened to go on a trip, even with my meals with me. Yesterday, I went on a seven mile hike, which I completed with friends nearly running the entire time, finished it in three hours. It was over rocks, crags, places where humans shouldn't even be able to physical walk, and so forth. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but was totally fine the entire time. The only problem I have is that my foot is sore from all the walking. Only two months ago, this trip would have been impossible. Any of you who are worried you'll never get better, trust me, you will. It takes time. Once you start getting good days comparable to this that I describe, the bad days will start to not matter, and you'll notice them going away quicker in the process. Always look to the good days and mark your progress, you'll get there!

Hi stan,

that's really great you were able to accomplish a hike like that! I'm really missing having the energy to do my normal workouts but i'm inspired by your recovery. Keep up the good work!

I think it's mainly the fact that my body is nearly completely adjusted now. You'll get there!

Thanks stan for giving hope, I have just been diagnosed this week with hypo and started the low gi diet / low carb high protein diet and it is difficult for me to cope, cause now I have to have a snack in 30mins - 1 hr and I get these floaty, slight dizzy , small headache symptoms, and it is very difficult to concentrate.

I am glad that things will get better as long as I stick to the diet.

What was your symptoms the first time you got diagnosed? Did you have to eat a snack/meal every hour?

How did you cope?

How did I cope? I didn't, hahahahaah. I didn't know what it was for two years. They actually put me on antidepressants for nine months, which was a mistake because those symptoms disappeared while the physical ones still remained. The diet I ate actually worked after around eleven months, but it put me in a precarious position that soon went all downhill after a chinese meal. I tend to go more towards the high fat thing since there is still talk about high protein diets being detrimental to the kidneys. This however, means over a long, long time, which you normally don't do with this diet. You'd have to eat a lot too to have a bad effect, probably around 200g a day. I eat around 80-100g, but most of my diet is all fat, especially olive oil. Before I knew what I had I would eat one to two handfulls of sunflower seeds almost every half hour. It did seem to help. My symptoms were all over the place. I would obsess I was going to hurt someone, rob a bank, get really depressed, cry a lot, shake, have these flu-like symptoms where it felt like my temperature was sky-high even though it read totally normal. I used to get the floaty feelings too but also mild delusions and my personal favorite, depersonalization/derealization, which is where you feel like you're living in a dream world and nothing is real. That's a fun one, let me tell you.
