Ive had a bulging disc for 15 months now ,have done phsyio, rested and was told it wont get worse and would fix itself in about 2 years it is getting worse and im thinking bout getting an opp done where they sleeve the nerve ,this is only a tempory solution that only lasts 6 weeks - 6 months. Im almost at the point I can not ease the pain no matter what I do.
My doc dosn't like the idea of any opp on the back as 1 leads to more and if any opp is going to be done it should be the 1 that fixes the problem but that will be years from now.

Whatt would you do? Put up with the pain and wait?

Or get the temp. Opp done?

Back Pain
It is a crime that nobody has suggested seeing a chiropractor. A good chiropractor can usually relieve and thoroughly evaluate this, possibly preventing surgery. My guess is that you have problems with the way you walk which is inherited. Shoe inserts help many people with chronic lower back pain and is part of chiropractic management

It was mentioned to see a bone jerker but several ppl have advised against it even doctors. My condition came from sneezing in the shower(this time ). I have a trouble since I was 16 ,being a truckies offsider in the removal game. I have torn muscles over and over for years would this be a part of the reason...Damaged/stretched muscles = bulging disc???

Thanx for ur response ,i will check it out and ur site too..

Crazy ivan ~

like you I have been told no chiropractor! You condition can a simply as mine which I was never in a mva or had an injury that caused my spine problems that we know of. I also have personal reasons for not seeing a chiro. :( my surgeon is not one who would say never consider a chiro but when it comes to problems like I have and like you have been told a chiro is not the answer sometimes.

Backfixer ~

I really don't think is's a crime that no one suggested a chiropractor maybe a "shame" is a better word to use. My guess is you are a chiro from the username you choose to use? I will also check your site out. You seem to mention "inserts for your shoes" and seeing a "good chiropractor" often in your posts. ? Do you yourself suffer any pain from spine problems?

Regarding to your question of back problems, most chiropractors have chronic problems due to working on people. Fortunately, their coleagues take care of them and keep them healthy so they can continue to help the public, much like psychotherapists who often see their own to deprogram them from the stuff they hear from their clients. It really is a crime when a doctor who knows little of the benefits of what chiropractors do says not to see one. It is well established that chiropractors are quite safe and effective for back problems and sciatica. Most sports trained chiropractors in in highest demand from athletes because they do it right, faster and more effective than other types of practitioners. This is partly due to the fact they use manipulation, but also because the best also use techniques such as graston and myofascial release and incorporate rehab. Over the last 20 years, other groups such as physical therapists have attempted to learn these methods, however, without understanding the chiropractic thought process, methods and being full time manipulators, most are simply not as effective. I have a neurosurgeon who sends us post surgical cases and we do well with some but some we cannot help, even with the best intentions. This is still safer than sending them for pain management which is another name for more agressive drugs with side effects and injections. Most chiropractors will tailor that care to the patients tolerance. The irrational fear some people have is fear of the unknown and some if this has been from others who badmouth or just advise them to stay away. I would always urge anyone who has back problems to see a chiropractor first. The benefits will always outweigh the risk, even if you have had surgery already

Tyr Managing Your Back Pain With Acupressure
Hi ivan,
due to pain your back muscles are getting more and more tensed. This causes pain to become even worse. Try relaxing your back muscles with acupressure that you can do yourself. I have used it a lot and eventually put together an ebook with video clips showing exactly how you can use these techniques as well. I hope it will relieve your back pain problem too.

All the best,
virpi

Crazyman,

have you been given a diagnosis of your spinal issues from a spine specialist? If not you need to be evaluated and properly diagnosed by a spine specialist.

It is true that one spine surgery can lead to another, but it is also true that does not necessarily happen.

I have a neighbor who is 75 years old. He had a spinal fusion done more than 20 years ago and has not had any other spinal problems or surgeries on his spine since.

Everyone is an individual and know spine surgeon can predict the future, they can only deal with the present and what they see is going on at this time.

They have statistics to tell you, but on the other hand, statistics are just that, and not as helpful as one would think they might be.

As for chiropractors. Sorry, but the last person I would see, or tell someone to see for any kind of spinal or orthopedic issue is a chiropractor.

I have seen far too much damage done by them to people, including my son, who decided to ignore mom and give one a try.
He is lucky he is alive today, and this was a so called excellent chiropractor with years and years of experience.

Spine surgeon and neurosurgeons offices are filled with patients who decided to try chiropractors first instead of seeing a spine specialist and the results from their not going to a spine specialist have guaranteed their need for surgery that could very well have been avoided if the had not gone to the chiropractor first.

Self treatment with exercises and the like, without proper diagnosis and proper guidance by a well trained physical therapist with experience in dealing with spinal problems can make your spinal problem far worse and not better.

It sounds like you are thinking of having nerve ablation done in an attempt to ease your pain.
It can be very successful in some, make some worse and others provide little or no relief.
Have you had diagnostic testing done to see if your pain is coming from the facet areas of your spine that they are talking about doing ablation on?

If you have not had diagnostic facet injections with lidocaine to see if that is the area causing your pain, you should not go ahead and have the ablation done. It will be a waste of time for you and it will increase your pain and muscle spasms on a temporary basis till the nerve calm down from the ablation.

If you can answer some of the questions I asked you, I may be able to provide further information to you.

Good luck

Fran

No doubt what your doctor meant is that your disc could herniate and leak out disc material on to the nerves in the area of the disc.

This can be extremely painful and it can cause damage to the nerves.

If your nerves are severely compressed from the disc, disc material coming out of the disc, spinal stenosis, the end result in the L4/L5/S1 area can be permanent damage to those nerves and this can cause loss of control of both the bladder and bowels.

This is called quada equina syndrome and is considered an emergency and emergency surgery is done to relieve the nerve compression before the nerves are permanently damaged.
Most doctors believe that you have no more than 48 hours at most to relieve that pressure, in this kind of circumstance, before it is too late and the damage is done.

If you are having no symptoms of bladder or bowel function loss, you should get at least one other opinion on surgery, if not more than one.

It is always best to have several other opinions before undergoing surgery, especially spinal surgery.

Good luck

Fran
