Epilepsy And Infertility
Posted: 03-30-06 16:56pm

Hey, this is my first post. I take 1000mg of keppra, twice daily for treatment of tonic-clonic seizures. Originally, they thought that I had rolandic epilepsy, but I think that since I don't seem to be growing out of it, I can rule that out. Anyway,
i was wondering if epilepsy specifically can cause infertility? All the research I have done has completely shied away from this topic.
Does keppra seem to cause infertility? I know that it can cause birth defects, but infertility, yet again, I can't find any answers. I mean, can it effect my eggs?

Thanks!

I've not run across any information that epilepsy iteself - ie. A seizure disorder - has any relation to infertility. I have seen questions as to the role of certain aeds and low libido (sex drive) and possible infertility. However, I have not seen any definitive statements on the matter.

I have been ttc for 18 months, but we have found out that the main cause is with my husband. We will have to do ivf. Anyone know if there are any special precautions for epilepsy and ivf?
