muscle twitches
Hi - I've had muscle twitches in my legs and feet on and off for about 10 years. I am sure it is anxiety, but whenever my mind goes into "what if" mode, I really lose it and the anxiety worsens and I think this perpetuates the muscle twitches. It is important to remember it is only anxiety and you have the power to do something about it. You are not dying. Meditation is really important and just know that the muscle twitches usually do not go away immediately - it takes time for your nervous system to get to a calm state again. Don't get caught up in "when will this go away?" - it will only cause more stress. These things take time and your body needs to get rid of the high stress hormones in your body.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone has had success with magnesium/calcium supplementation.

muscle twitching
i have had muscle twitching ever since my back surgery. it started first on my leg and now, like everyone else i get them on my shoulders, head, arms. i am currently following up with neurologist to rule out any serious disease, but i feel better knowing that i am not alone in my symptoms. now i must truly find some way to deal with my stress. i hope everyone can find solutions to their problems so that they may finally be stress free!!!

arm twitch
helloeverybody

wow itsas if I was reading posts that I could've written, I've had an arm twitch for a day now and Igot worried specially cause its so annoying, it goes off when I exerciseand comes back when im tensed up again. Also i was very worried and started googling information the thing is the first thing google tell you is that you have the worst disease of all.
Im an hypochondriac since I was little, I've thought I've had several types of cancer, one time I even thought I was going to be blind just because of a little eye problem I had. Lately i've been very anxious and this twitch presented itself and I was very scared, also the more I think abpout it the more intenseit gets, but its good to see that there'smore people who is going through similar things as me.

what do you recommend for a nervous guy like me?

THanks
Its so good to hear that others are experiencing some of the same sypmtoms as myself. I have been suffering from severe anxiety and panic and having muscle twitches in several areas. I also have a sore muscle in my neck, mild headache on the right temple and sometimes even floaters in the right eye...anyone else can relate?
After reading others stories makes me calmer!

Me Too
I must say all of these posts have been making me feel better about my muscle twitching. I also suffer from general anxiety disorder, have had a few panick attacks, and also obsesively worry about my health. I went on Citalopram for a few months but was too spaced out and came off it. I have also been seeeing a therapist to help with the thought process involved. I have had pins and needle type feelings for a while all over my body and have noticed a few days ago I started to get muscle twitches in my arms, hands, and legs. Notice it more when I'm resting (bed, couch) but the more anxious I get about them I notice they are more frequent. I had a bout of anxiety about 6 months ago but these twitches weren't there. They've only appeared with this relapse of anxiety. I have read alot about the things which may cause it (I use aspartame sweeteners, B12 deficiancy as I am vegetarian) but all seem to have me running in circles. I've thought about other more serious illnesses such as ALS or MS but am trying my hardest not to dwell on them. I'm going back to the doctor in a week so hopefully I can get a bit further with this. Thanks for all the posts, I feel better knowing it's not just me.

the fix for this!
i had muscle twitches along with muscle cramps which would turn up any where anytime. I too thought there could be a relativity to MS so i started to investigate why these symptoms are, i discovered that mineral balance is important & magnesium calcium are crucial i have been studying this for two & a half yrs & have just regained my magnesium calcium balance which is also relative to anxiety & depression & stress. One thing we must be carefull about is the function of your kidneys (a simple urine test)before using magnesium as a disfunctional kidney can not process magnesium well & further damage must be avoided. Also it's not as easy as just taking magnesium to fix this problem as you can cause a thyroid inbalance & create a worse state. Magnesium deficiency does cause these symptoms but you need to study it properly. So the areas to start your searches are: magnesium deficiency, research ALL your symptoms & cross reference them with magnesium etc, & go to this educational site ithyroid.com & study it like your life depends on it, read everything! if you want to turn your life around i believe this is the best way to do it doctors will treat you for the symptoms but not the cure. My sister had the same symptoms as me, she wanted nothing to do with what i have researched & 7 yrs later she has been diagnosed with MS .
I have no symptoms & my Cfs is improving through my self education & persueance of research. also research zest for life anyvitamin (dot) com here you can find what assists different nutrients & what antagonises, them plus the roles these play in our systems.
private message to me are welcome if i can be of any help, just click my 8 ball picture & send a message!
Good luck
God Bless!

it's also caused by nutritional deficiencies which are why you aren't handling the stress & if you don't balance the deficiency you will suffer worse later in life!

follow up on arm twitch
just to give a follow up on my case
I went to the doctor AGAIN and he told me the same thing this was a stress related issue, so he gave me vitamins to take for 30 days, my twitch in the arm is totally gone now for like a week now. but I just started to expierence little twitches on different parts of my body, like in the legs, and my eye, this is not as annoying as the one in the arm since it doesnt happen very often sometimes is just one twitch and thats all, also I started taking swimming lessons (on doctor's reccomendation to begin practicing a sport)

Twitching
I was so relieved when i read this, my twitches dropped by at least 50%. I stopped looking up anything on the internet incase i found soemthing bad and then i got really worried so i decided to look it up and i was so glad i typed in what i did and found this

I have only started suffering from anxiety i think from having my last child and she is now 18 months. Since she has been born, there has been so many things that have worried me. I have always worried about my health though, just not as bad as recently.

A month or so ago i noticed that my hands were twitching and then feet and then all over. The more i thought about it the worse it has got. I have had an awful weekend, i have never felt so bad with anxiety, panicing, shaking for days, nausia and this really irriting twitching. The dr said that the twitching was probably related to the anxiety but she wasnt very convincing because as you know they need to be really good to stop you worrying with anxiety.

Anyway thank you for all the comments as i have felt so much better for reading all the above

Re: twitching and anxiety in general
Whenever I experience anxiety attacks, or it seems as if an army of bodily ailments are raining down on me (a combination of twitching, paranoia about my own health, muscle soreness, depression, etc), the last thing on earth that I am able to do is "stop thinking about it." Know what I mean?

My mom tells me to stop worrying and calm down, like it's nothing, but I tell her that her body isn't the one flipping out and breaking down.

I stand behind Yoga and other stretching/meditation exercises to relax myself, or at least to forget about what it is that I fear.

But does anyone else have any advice about what they do to soothe their anxiety? Even if it's some organic food product (like I heard that Orange Flower extract relieves anxiety), I would appreciate any help.

I am 20, a college student, and I want to get on with my life without wondering what terminal illness I am developing all the time! In the meantime, I'll go get a neuro exam.

Thanks!

Hi there folks

Very happy to find this forum to put my mind at ease! Have had strange twitching/pins and needles in both lower legs for the past 3 weeks - am going for a neurological examination in a couple of days and have convinced myself i have MS/ALS and a whole variety of other hideous illnesses so glad to read this forum! Also had a panic attack yesterday in the town centre as I felt i was losing control of my legs so I guess it's all related. Ironically enough I am writing a psychology thesis at the moment which is the root of my stress. Even more ironically i am writing about mindfulness meditation - which by the way i can really recommend to help. Simple breathing and relaxation exercises work a treat :-)Thich Nhat Hanh is a beautiful Buddhist monk who explains it nicely, or else there's Jon Kabat-Zin or Eckhart Tolle. Anxiety is all about our ability to predict the future, so trying to be present and aware in the now is a good way to avoid it.
Good luck fellow twitchers Smile

p.s Just got back from the neurologists and thought I would share his comments with you all. He said that such twitching is a classic "normal neurological symptom" and is quite common and completely harmless. Apparently my muscle membrane was irritated by too much adrenaline in the system as a result of stress. He told me the biggest problem with it is that people make it into something it isn't. I was mega scared I had something serious so I hope this calms some nerves!
