Crazy Muscle Twitching
Posted: 03-29-06 05:36am

All over my body, I get these little twitches. Neck, arms, back, shoulders, legs, feet ... All over ... It's really weird. And my arms and legs now both ache. Like after a workout kind of feeling. Any thoughts on what the hell is going on here?

Hey asyf25:

i had crazy muscle twitches when I was suffering from anxiety really bad. I still have a few weird ones now and again even though my anxiety is pretty much gone. They drove me crazy... Even though they don't really hurt they are so annoying. Mine were persistent too, like every 30 seconds or so, usually everywhere in my body. I got really scared about them, but in the end they were nothing. The ones I hated the most were in my stomach muscles. I had never had a muscle twitch there before and they felt so weird. Bu hang in there... I wouldn't worry about them too much. I know its hard, especially when they keep coming, but try to forget about them. Hope this helps. Have a good one.

I have the same thing-twitching for more than 8 months. Sometimes it is almost on continuous basis and sometimes they are gone. I think that I have anxiety as well (i have the other anxiet )symptoms . From the beginning it was every once in a while and now it is almost every day 24/7. I was afraid it can be something dangerous but I had neuro check and mri and everything was ok.
Does someone know for how long anxiety can last? Can it be on continuous basis like I think it is now or this is something else.
Thank you

Anxiety & Twitching

Hi all,

anxiety will last until you figure out what is causing it and then do something to fix it. Try talking to a psychologist (helped for me). I also started on zoloft. The meds took about 2-3 mos before I really felt a change. As of now I no longer have panic attacks or insomnia.

The twitching can also be associated with dehydration and exhaustion. I know when I was at my worst (the point where the anxiety and insomnia were so bad that I became depressed) I noticed that I wasn't drinking much of anything. Try upping your water intake.

Take a deep breath and don't sweat the little things... They'll still be there tomorrow.

Thank you very much for your support. Its easy to say not to think but its something stronger than us. But we will overcome it. I meant for how long continuously anxiety can last, I mean all the time every minute. Could it be months or so? Also, I agree with you that medication helps. People are scared but definitely many people overcame anxiety with proper medications. I see that the success rate is around 80%. Do you beleive this or they are just promoting drugs.
Thanks

For everyoen who has twitching please check this website: http://www.Nextination.Com/ aboutbfs/
could be that we have bfs - benign fasciculation syndrome which is as it says benign but I dont like benign ilness as well. Anyway, this is a good website especially forums where you can find what people thought abou twitching. It is interesting that 50% of people suffering twitching are doctors. I got my twitching after I had very bad flu.

Hi there! If it is coming from your legs, it could be restless leg syndrome, I am not a dr but you might ask a dr about it, it might be caused from a lot of other things, you might talk to your dr about it all!
Good luck to you all!

This is what I have been going through. I am a 43 year old male. I am going through some stress and my anxiety is flairing up. For the last trhee weeks my muscles have been sore and are twitching. I have had this before and it turned out to be nothing. Of course since I worry about my health my thoughts go to a life threatedning disease.

Anyone else have this problem and how long did it last?

Muscle twitching can be a sign of a magnesium deficiency, and magnesium is often used up more quickly during anxiety and stress. Worth looking into.

I am so glad to hear that others have this twitching or jumpy muscles. I have anxiety as well, so I am glad its very possibly from that. It is so aggrevating. I need to go back on med for it I guess, but I hate taking it. Is there any that is low on side affects, weight gain, etc. that anyone knows about?

I am going through alot of stress right now and the twitching has been hangin around, so I am sure if I pay attention from now on it will be when I am stressed that I do this. Thanks again for posting about this.

Very
Happy It's good to hear i not the only with twitching, and that is not nothing terrible. My twitches are tiny, but some last for a long time in one area, and I get them all over sometime. Usually in in weird places like my neck, head, stomach. chest, between toes, wrist, and anywhere you can name. I am very tense at times. It's just good to know what it is!

At Last....i Have Found People Like Me!!
Posted: 10-08-07 15:48pm

Hey.......im a 21 year old female and for the past few weeks i have been suffering really bad with anxiety and just this last week i went to the doctor and she put me on Propranalol 80mg for a month and i think its starting to work. I do keep worrying about a soreness and twitching in my left side. It feels like there is something there but there cant be because the doctor has had a feel and there was nothing. she said it was a muscle strain. The soreness/pain is under my last rib and down on to my lower abdomen and i get alot of twitching in my stomach muscle on my left side. I would love to know if anyone else has got or had this as it would make me feel a little better to know that im not the only one!! Thanks x

Anxiety can make you twitch, try to relax and take your mind off things, like try to stop thinking about the thing thats worrying you. Smile

Hollie, I get the exact same feelings!! I am 25 and I have had severe anxiety/panic disorder since I was 20. The symptoms always seem to be changing. With my most recent bout I have been experiencing muscle twitching in my arms, legs, back, and chest; it can be quit annoying to say the least. I get the same feeling under my last rib on my left side too! Like alot of people with anxiety disorders, we experience anxiety due to anticipation of things to come. For example, I play sports, and usually one hour or two before a game I have extreme anxiety/borderline panic attacks!!! I am beginning to train myself to convert this negitive energy into positive energy by treating my anxiety as excitement about something good rather than anticipation of something bad. Trust me, it's not the easiest thing to do, but I am getting better at it. I take Clonazepam as needed and am suposded to be taking Paxil daily, but I am stuborned and don't like the side effects of antidepresants. Besides, if our minds have the power to cause the horrible effects of anxiety, panic, depression, etc., I believe we all have the power to reverse the effects with little our no help from meds. All it takes is a little practice with alot of courage. I will win!!!

Best of Luck To All,
Matt

I have had a muscle spasm in my eye for the past two weeks. It started on a plane ride back home from vacation. I have also had several muscle spasms in my arms, legs, and that lump I sit on. My psychologist says it is all stress related and once I can learn how to deal with the stress they should fade. He also suggest I get a physical to see if anything is wrong other than mentally. Twitches can have a variety of causes but if you know you are stressed out then that is all it is. I can honestly say I've tried everything to try and stop the twitches and failed. It isn't easy to rid them, that's a fact.

Thank goodness I found this forum. I started suffering from anxiety attacks after I got a kidney stone on my 25th birthday (nice birthday gift from my own body, eh?) and any time I feel ANYTHING unusually, I start to freak out. A couple days ago I started to get a little twitch in my right side, below my last rib, combined with a bit of gas and boom, nearly full blown freak out. Reading here that its normal pretty much calmed me right down. Just wanted to say thanks.
