Q: Is it possible to become pregnant after having a hysterectom
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 28th, 2006
Is it possible to become pregnant after having a hysterectomy? I am having symptoms of pregnancy as odd as that sounds. I have my right ovary and once every 2 or 3 months I ovulate or it feels like cramps. I am very sick feeling every morning around 5am and again around 6pm. Some food smells make me sick, I get sick while eating supper, very tired, my breasts are very tender & dizziness. I am having alot of pain on my right side and it is worse when I lay on my right side and makes me sick feeling as well. I have done a home test which was negative but haven't been to a Dr. yet for fear of laughter of the question. I lost about 10 pounds and am now gaining it back. Could this be pregnancy or a sign of menopause? I also have had a uti which i only had once while I was pregnant with my last child.

Please give me some feed back on this.
Thank You So Much,

Melissa A.

When a pregnancy test is negative, pregnancy is most likely not present. Chances of getting pregnant after a hysterectomy are so small that pregnancy is practically impossible. The symptoms that you are experiencing could be signs of many other conditions or diseases other than pregnancy. You can begin the process of confirming or excluding conditions by requesting an abdominal ultrasound examination and standard blood analyses.
