Q: Is a Workout at the Gym Proper Protocol for High Blood Press
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 28th, 2006
I went to the doctor yesterday and my blood pressure was 150/100. Six weeks prior my blood pressure was 140/90. He didn't give me any medication and I was just wondering if there is anything for me to worry about.

He also cleared me to start a workout program @ the gym....is this ok?

High Blood Pressure, Hypertension, High Cholesterol Answer A
It is very important to know if your blood pressure remains constantly at 150/100. Frequent measurement of blood pressure will help you and your doctor(s) better understand the real baseline value of your blood pressure. After a period of 2 months you can then establish or exclude certain diagnoses. There are special monitors designed for measuring blood pressure automatically, every 30 minutes. If your blood pressure is constantly at 150/100, you belong to "Level I": hypertension. According to your risk factors, you currently belong to "Risk Group B". Recommended treatment for Level I hypertension and Risk Group B is modification of the lifestyle over 6 months. If there is no normalization of the blood pressure after 6 months, medical treatment is indicated.
