Is an Intra-Uterine Device Right for me? I Haven't had Chil Posted: 03-28-06 13:18pm
I would like to get an IUD inserted. (the
copper one with no hormones) I am not
able to use hormonal birth control. I am
getting married and have been in a
monogamous relationship for 2 years and
want to find another method besides
condoms. We can't use spermicide either
because it is severely irritating to me
and my fiance's skin. I have not had any
prior pregnancies and no children. I am
having trouble finding a Dr. that will
insert an IUD without having children
prior, even though I have read online in
several sites that it can be used if you
haven't had kids. I also would like to
know where I can get it inserted, what the
cost is, and if there is any insurance
coverage for this.

An Intra-Uterine Device (IUD) is most
highly recommended for married women who
don’t intend to deliver more babies. IUD
increases the risk of endometrial
infections, especially in women who
exhibit risky sexual behavior (frequent
change in their sexual partners,
promiscuity, etc.). Endometrial infections
can have a great impact on reproductive
abilities-they can cause sterility in
woman. That’s why an IUD is not
recommended for women who have not yet
delivered and who want to have children in
the future.. There is no increased risk
for endometrial infections for women who
have strong monogamous relationships with
a partner who is devoted only to her. With
these facts in consideration, you can use
IUD as a contraceptive method if you wish.
You will have to do your own research on
where you can get an IUD inserted, what
the cost is, and if there is any insurance
coverage.
