Ihave recently been diagnosed as having
irritable bowel syndrome and was
prescribed fluxotine. but as they are anti
depressants i dont really want to take
them as i dont want to get addicted to
them.My doctor didnt give me any advice on
how to manage my problem or even explaine
what my condition actually is.I am still
non the wiser on how to handle or cope
with IBS so i would really appreciate some
advice and information on my condition and
also any alternative remadies apart from
anti depressants
The diagnosis for “irritable bowel
syndrome” is established when all
diagnostic procedures (endoscopy,
ultrasound, blood analyses, feces
examination, etc.) indicate no other
organic disorders of the gastro-intestinal
tract. When everything tests OK and there
are still various symptoms present
(constipation, diarrhea etc.), protocol
directs patients to take a look at their
psycho-emotional life. Some psychiatric
disorders mainfest psycho-emotional
problems into physical symptoms, imitating
organic disease. Fluoxetine belongs to the
group of selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitors which are new generation of
antidepressants that don’t cause
addiction. You can also ask a mental
health professional for help.
