Whats wrong with me!?

I had a very traumatic experience recently. My father had to be rushed to the hospital because he had a severe heart attack and had to be revived 10 times total. Everything turned out to be fine after a few days in the hospital. I went to visit him at home and on the way back I got this sudden rush of anxiety. I made it home and went to the hospital with my wife (didn't see a doctor, just sat there cuz I wanted to feel like I was in a safe place).

Ever since then I haven't been the same. It's like my mind just took too much. I feel as though nothing really matters right now. Things don't sound the same, things don't look the same. I don't really want to go to the doctor because almost everyone with depression doesn't seem to get help from the doctor. I feel tingly, almost numb. Last night I thought that maybe I was just tired because I haven't slept very well. I went to bed much earlier then usual, slept all night and I still feel the same. Things that used to interest me just aren't interesting anymore. I really want to get over this. I hope that I can.

Hey! You should go to a doctor, I promise if it dosn't help you it will at least put you on the right track! Go see acounselor. I know it sounds cheesy , but in the end it really will help you out! I have gone though the same thing ,and I have felt the same feeking of emtiness! It's not the end of the world though there is a light at the end of each tunnel, no matter how long that tunnel may be!

I can completely relate to your feeling of numbness. But nevertheless I think your going to be alright. I think you may still just be in shock from the recent events that occured with your father. Hey, thinking someone that close to you may die, is a scary thing and would produce aniexty in almost anyone. As for the not sleeping to well, im sure its just nerves. If you feel the problem is serious, seeing a professional wouldnt be such a bad idea, it could be benefical to just talk to someone or maybe even get some temporary medication. Either way I would just give yourself some more time, make sure to get out everyday and try to find something good out of the day to make you smile. Also I do recommend excercise, it really is a natural way to feel better, get those endorphins running and heighten your mood. I hope you soon find yourself feeling better.

Wherever did you get this idea that people don't get help from doctors??

If you feel like you won't be able to manage this on your own (e.G. By trying to relax, workout, eating right, occupying your mind with other things, etc.) then you definitely should go talk to a doctor and get some calming meds prescribed.

The meds work, and they help a lot. It's just that it's not always possible for a doctor to prescribe you the meds which are right for you, so it could be a trial and error process, but eventually you'll be fine.

There is nothing wrong with seeing a doctor for help. It is one of the best places to start. Find out if you are physically okay. Let him evaluate what type of help you might need. Medication is an option that is a very viable one. Your doctor can recommend a good therapist or phsyciatrist who can help you. You can be back on track in some cases faster than if you were going to go it alone.

Talking is always good. Talk to your wife, family, friends, neighbors, us. Let it out.

Keep us informed on how you are doing. That is why there is a forum. For us who have to talk, and us who want to listen.
