Q: Is This Anxiety?

Hello,

i recently had a very bad week. I suffer from anxiety already, but I typically just deal with it. It's not normally chronic, but about once or twice a year I have an anxiety attack.

My job is extremely stressful (software developer). And last week my father had a heart-attack and nearly died, he had to be revived a total of 10 times. I was extremely depressed during this time. Well, I went to visit him on sunday and everything seemed much better. While I was driving home I suddenly started having bad anxiety problems. I made it home alright. I started to get a throbbing pressure high on my neck, like around the base of my skull. Sometimes I can feel it pulse, mainly it's a dull slow-throbbing pressure. Above my temples I can feel a pulse as well, sometimes. Also, my ears will plug when it gets worse. I don't really have any other head-ache type problems, mainly pressure. I feel out-of-touch with reality and it's hard for me to work. I feel as though i'm on edge.

I had to have my wife take me to the emergency room last night. I didn't see a doctor, but when I have really bad anxiety attacks I will go to the emergency room and sit, usually I calm down. I woke up today to go to work and I seemed much better for the first hour. All of the sudden the pressure feelings and out-of-touch feelings started kicking in again. Am I slipping into depression?

I also must add a few other notes...

I am 24 and i've had anxiety problems since I was around 18.

Recently other issues have come up. A friend of ours is having really bad problems with her husband so she came to live with us. She doesn't have a job and she brought her dog (which is a serious pain). She always has a friend andy come over. I just don't want any roomates right now, but we told her we could help her for a little while.

I don't sleep well most of the time. When I do sleep it seems like I have nightmares... Then I become scared to sleep so I end up staying up late until I finally just pass out.

I do have poor a poor diet and I don't exercise much. I constantly feel like doing nothing. I have a drinking problem, but it's not hard liquor, I only drink beer... But sometimes a lot of it. I recently quit smoking (very recently) which also may be contributing to my stress levels.

I have some other small medial issues such as scoliosis, which may inhibit blood flow.

I have had a rough life.

The pressure feeling in my head is new and sort of scaring me. My ears plug a little, my nose plugs a little and I get that throbbing pressure on the base of my skull. I have a fear that I will lose my mind.

Wow
Wow, you really sound like me. I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder and have almost identical symptoms as you although mine started with dizziness. This then progressed to headaches of the pressure type... This then went when I found out what I had was anxiety and now I am stuck with the throbbing/puunding in the head/neck and a constant fear of going crazy.
