Q: Could I Have Miscarried?

About four weeks ago, I started feeling nauseaus(sorry, no idea how to spell it), exhausted (had to take a nap during the day to make it through the day), had bad heartburn when I normally don't, was running a slight fever for the last two weeks, had sore breasts, had headaches, and felt like something else was in control of my body. I'm usually very healthy and do not fall ill regularly so I was suspicious from the beginning when I began experiencing these symptoms though I honestly thought I had the flu.

When I was late, I didn't worry at first because I always run one or two days late when i'm expecting my period. When I hit 5 days late, I called and made an appointment with the doctor. I took a pregnancy test but it came back negative. The night before my doctor's appointment, I went to bed early and woke up in the night with some really horrible cramps. Two hours after they started, I noticed some very, very pink blood (almost flourescent pink). A few hours more, I passed a clot (which freaked me out). For a full day after that the discharge was very dark brown, gooey, and clumpy. Only in the past day has the discharge returned to a normal color and consistency for me. Because I had started bleeding, I called the next morning and canceled my appointment. If I had kept the appointment, I would have been 9 days late.

Could I have been pregnant and miscarried before finding out? Can you be pregnant and still have a "negative" pregnancy test with a home test?

If I did miscarry, should I make another appointment to the doctor to have an ultrasound to make sure that everything has come out alright? I don't want to have an infection.

What is everyone's suggestion?

I had a similar experience but I was further along than you. The pregnancy test I first took said positive.
I went to the doctor and he said his test came back negative.
The following week I took a home pregnancy test and it came back positive. I took the test to the doctor to show him the results. A blood test showed traces of the pregnancy hormone in my system so he said I was pregnant.

The following week I was out with my husband and started to spot, headache and back ache. We went to the hospital and the doctor said those were symptoms of a possible misscarriage. He told me to go home and stay on bedrest til my ultrasound - three days later.

I woke up the morning of the ultrasound with the strongest urgency to have a bowel movement. I passed what felt like a tampon.

When I called the doctor he said I had to go to the ultra sound anyway even though I was certain I had miscarried to be sure that everything had passed thru.

So the answer to both of your questions are yes. Yes you could have been pregnant and miscarried and yes you should ask your doctor for an ultrasound to be safe.

Thank you for responding. I will call my doctor and make an appointment. We weren't trying to become pregnant again because we just bought a house together so if I was pregnant, this was probably for the best. I'm just concerned about my health because I never get sick or ill, ever but I felt incredibly sick while this was all going on. I've just now, a full week later, felt like i'm back to my original energy and health levels. Thanks so much!
