my girlfriend had and abortion and regretted it. my sister had an abortion while being in her second trimester. she told me the surgery asked her do she want to now the sex, and she said no, why?
i never really knew how i felt about it until i was told what they specifically do to the baby in the second trimester.
they give the mother something to open her cervix, and the stab the baby's head so the brain can slide out so it wont hurt the mother.
but wasnt there a time when abortions was illegal and a lot of women got it done under the table, and some women was butchered by a doctor that didnt know what he was doing.
so what is the middle ground. it will always be someone to the left or to the right.

pretty sick. she should be aborted. :-s um if she doesnt want it after 8 months she should go ahead and carry it full term and give the baby up for adoption. it's bad enough to kill a fetus that is not fully developed.. but to wait until it is almost here.. dumb people should practice birth control a little better.

Birth control has a failure risk, low but it is still there. I was on birth control (and taking it properly) for all three of my pregnancies. I agree that the OP's friend would be better off having the baby, but this is an old thread. But I disagree with you calling others dumb because of a very personal and private decision.

The only abortions inolving killing the fetus that would be performed at that stage would almost certainly have to involve a fetus with abnormalities, eg anencephaly or something involving severe disability. I'd be surprised if anyone has evidence that a healthy fetus has ever been terminated at 8 months. Even f the mother's life was in danger at that stage, I would have thought that performing an emergency caesarean would be no more traumatic or dangerous than a vaginal abortion of a 5 or 5 lb fetus.

There will always be people who do it for reasons most people would never find remotely logical though they'd never try to interfere with her right to do so. That said- there have been women who've gotten third trimester abortions for reasons such as ending the relationship with the fetus father, he cheated, she changed her mind about wanting to be a mother and doesn't want to deal with giving the baby up for adoption. These happen- the fantasy that perfectly healthy viable fetuses are never aborted in such a way it causes their demise is just that- a fantasy. There are doctors who wouldn't ask questions about the whys but simply perform the procedure -maybe thinking they are saving the woman the trouble of having to relive some horrible nightmare of a dying wanted fetus/baby or simply because he knows there's money he could lose if he asks the questions he really doesn't want the answers to. Abortion providers are not routinely working for free- like other doctors there is money at stake for their good deeds.
