My son is 15 years of age, when he was about 2 he scraped his top lip while playing outside. He did get a little bit of infection while it was healing. He is an athlete and plays baseball, football. His sores were getting pretty bad when he had day games. Now he is snowboarding, and in two days he has sores inside his top lip, and the entire skin on his lips, the skin up to his nose, the sores have moved inside his nostals all the way to the bridge of his nose, it has now moved to the outside of his nose and is spreading up the top and sides of his nose it is about an inch away from the bottom of his eyes. All this has happened since yesterday afternoon, we did take him to an insta-care, our doctor won't be until monday. He is taking 1gram of valtrex and has a cream the doctor prescribed. My question is there anything I can do to stop the spread of this, or help with the swelling and help him so he is not so uncomfortable.

It is hard to answer your question without seeing the lesion. Can you sent me some photo? According to the prescribed medicine, your doctor probably assumed herpes lesion. If it is herpes there is nothing you can do but to follow your doctor's instructions.

try not to touch the lesions and make sure to wash your hands each time you apply the cream. Maybe you could use Q tips to apply the cream to the sores. Use a new Qtip each time to avoid spreading the virus to other parts of his skin. The only releive is zinc/lip balm or baking soda. For gential herpes soaking in a tub of baking soda and water does wonders. maybe you could soak a warm washcloth in water and baking soda and apply it to his face. Its a temporary releif but it feels so good. The baking soda can also help dry the sores out and keep then nice and clean.
