Quitting the Pill ~input Please??? Posted: 03-24-06 01:40am
I was on depo-provera for 5 years and had
to stop due to the high risk of
osteoporosis....I had a bone scan and I
appeared to be 1%osteopoenia to my right
hip.....So finally my dr put me on alesse
and it has been anything but good. I
gained 20lbs in a month (november 05) and
I haven't been able to take it off. The
other night I was doing a night shift with
an outstanding rn and she told me that it
was because of the estrogen, estrogen
makes your body keep the fat in (thinking
it is pregnant).........Some of the other
bad side effects I experienced from alesse
include: rashes on my face and vagina,
dizziness, headaches, tight chest, breast
tenderness (and growth to another cup
size).....It has been 24 hours since my
last scheduled dose and I have experienced
dizziness, headaches and frequent and
quantative amounts of urination.
 so my big question is, when and
how long did it take anyone else out there
to get back to normal? This is the
biggest I have been in 5 years and I am
freaking out.

I did not have a problem with weight gain,
but I can help you a bit :o)
it may take a couple of months for you to
get back to your original weight, as 20
pounds is a significant amount to gain.
It will take a little while for your body
to get back to normal and get used to not
getting hormones every day. Your
dizziness, headaches, and urination are
probably a side effect of your body's
withdrawal from the birth control. Give
it a couple of weeks and you should be
feeling better. Try to exercise more and
eat healthy foods for a while, as that
will help your body to drop the weight.
Try not to lose too much all at once - I
think they recommend losing up to two
pounds per week, but no more.
You may want to look into birth control
pills that do not have estrogen. There
are options out there! Just ask your
doctor about it. A lower-dose of hormones
could help as well. I am using nuvaring,
which has a lower dose, and I have even
stopped having cramps and bloating!

I am doing exactly that, just keeping up
with my exercise routine and eating well.
I have returned to my normal appetite,
the pill made me crave everything from
candies to cakes. It has been nearly a
week, and I think I have lost at least 2
or 3lbs, it is especially noticeable in my
face. My period hasn't been troublesome,
I have been taking extra strength ibprofen
1-2times a day and once at bedtime which
has really helped with cramping and
bloating. Other than that I feel
terrific at the moment, the dizziness has
subsided. Now to fit back into my
pants......Soon enough, here is hoping

Hey hun, if this comforts you in any way,
I also just got off the pill, 2 almost 3
weeks ago..I am experiencing the same
exact thing as you are..Except that I have
gained about 7 lbs..And pretty much water
weight cause my earting habits have not
changed...Though my body is kinda having a
hard time.
Headaches..And urination for sure...That
sucks too cause I get insane pressure on
my lower tummy...
Anyways..Good luck to you..And I hope you
feel better soon! :)
